Justice Yeldham tonight! 7pm

Origami Vinyl is excited to be hosting an in-store performance by Justice Yeldham (here from Australia!) who will be screaming into amplified glass in our store at 7pm tonight.

Yeldham's relationship to vinyl is certainly unorthodox. Initially classed as an experimental turntablist, early feats saw him stab vinyl with Kruger style stylus gloves, bounce on electro acoustic trampolines, drag race the popemobile across Sydney Harbour Bridge, perform deaf defying duet duels with amplified samurai swords, become hospitalised by high powered turntables constructed from sewing machine motors, land record chance John Peel sessions with the Flaming Lips, & be Otomo Yoshihides' favourite entry into his Ground Zero remix competition, 'Consummation,' even though instead of sampling the CD he destroyed it using amplified skewers!

This year, Yeldham created The Vinyl Arcade in Sydney, in which remote control cars with audio pick-ups attached to their chassis race through a course constructed from a mass of disused vinyl records.

Using vintage video arcade consoles, competitors simultaneously control the movement of their vehicles and the resulting sounds from the records.

*On a related note, Yeldham will appear in our friend Steve Elkins forthcoming documentary "The Reach Of Resonance", which investigates the meaning of music through juxtaposing the radically different artistic paths of individuals around the world using music to (for example) make audible the weather patterns of Alaska (in real time), transcribe riots into string quartets, and evoke music from fences in conflict zones (like the Separation Fence in Palestine) with a violin bow (and much more!). Below is a teaser trailer which gives you just a taste of what this fantastic film is about.

Foxtails Brigade in the loft tonight

Foxtails Brigade is singer/songwriter/guitarist Laura Weinbach and violinist/vocalist Sivan Sadeh. Originally formed in Los Angeles during the Fall of 2007, they later relocated to the S.F. Bay Area where they have quickly emerged as one of the Bay’s elite string-themed ensembles. Weinbach’s classical guitar technique and soaring vocals combined with Sadeh’s John Cale-like violin riffs evoke commanding stage presence and a storytelling atmosphere. An understated melancholy and uniquely bizarre style has won them a devoted fan base whose members are in seek of something different. - Ourstage.com
See them perform live in our loft at 7pm tonight and make sure to grab one of their new 7"s.

BUMMER!!!

Apologies to everyone but Gestapo Khazi will be postponed to another night. Keep your eyes peeled for a new date! CHEERS!

Gestapo Khazi Instore + New Adds & Restocks

Making the long trek from Long Beach to Origami Vinyl tonight is Gestapo Khazi. Admittedly we are little late to the Gestapo Khazi wagon...but nonetheless have been so taken by the shows we've caught recently that we were more than excited to have them play here. Watching them, in our humble opinion, is like discovering rock for the first time.

[Gestapo Khazi] comes together in a force that rips roofs off of houses and shakes the crowds into frenzy. Drawing influence from solid rockabilly, surf instrumentals, punk, and post punk, they truly make a sound and fury all their own. Live or on disc, if these kats don’t move you, then check your pulse cause you’re probably dead, or should be. - Fantasma el Rey

Come check them out and snag one of their new 7" splits with Tijuana Panthers.

See ya at 7pm!

Summer Darling's Self-Titled Album on Origami Vinyl is Out TODAY!

The wait is over! Summer Darling's Self-Titled debut album on Origami Vinyl is out today and you can download it for FREE here. The album has been getting strong press already (Rawkblog has already deemed it one of their favorite albums of 2010) and played a wicked show last night to open up their residency at Spaceland. The vinyl will be ready in less than 2 weeks and we will be sure to let you know as soon as they come in.

Here's some great things that press has been saying:
- "...the band earns its comparisons to the fringier elements of Neil Young and such thoughtful '90s punk as Fugazi and Shudder to Think" LA Times

- "The line between indie-pop and aggressive experimentation has been blurred." Filter Magazine

- "Sonically, the band’s influences are more Omaha and Washington, D.C. than Silver Lake — a bracing guitar record, Summer Darling touches on influences from Fugazi to Cursive to Radiohead" RawkBlog.net

- "Summer Darling evoke the emotional storminess of Neil Young's old work with Crazy Horse." LA Weekly

- "Simply one of the best bands in Los Angeles." LA Underground

If you would prefer to pay for the downloads and support the band, you can do that to by going to Summer
