TONIGHT: The Spyrals + Cab 20 in-store @ 6:30pm!!

There is a simple cure to the Monday blues: hang out at Origami Vinyl tonight at 6:30pm to catch a double feature in-store with The Spyrals and Cab 20!

The Spyrals recently dropped their self-titled debut album on Mock Records. At first listen your ears are showered with a gritty psych groove. "There’s hardly a better elixir in the retro-rock scene than filtering dark, droning guitars through psych-rock accoutrements (such as endless spools of reverb, tribal toms, and spiraling guitars)." Get with their song, "Trying to Please" and you'll instantly see The Spyrals don't have to try to hard to please you.

Take a good look at that picture of Cab 20 because for the second half of your Origami date tonight, you'll see this second Mock Records band play the loft! Easy Reader says these boys are "heavy, but not enough to be hard rock. They’re indie, but not enough to be boring and flat. They wander, but not enough to be completely psychedelic. And they’re not sloppy enough to be garage. It’s really just good rock and roll." If their newest song, again, "Kiss The Blue Sky" doesn't grab your attention in the first 20 seconds ask yourself, "are my speakers on?"

Kiss The Blue Sky by cab20

Alls I know is OUR speakers will be on loud and clear. Hope you can make it out for this double-header at 6:30pm tonight!

TONIGHT: No Paws In-store

No Paws will be in-store tonight! NO, that doesn't mean Ali is staying home for the day; the four piece band, No Paws is in da house TONIGHT at 7pm!!!!

Shake your bon bons over to OV to enjoy a night of free music. No Paws is pop-punk "driven by keyboards, melodic bass lines and controlled, yet powerful drums" that you can't miss. Family Time Records has served up Healthy Men, a record that's "an exploration of human relationships, communication, bodies, ethereal space, the past, present and future."

Listen to "Healthy Men" from No Paws ... because healthy men have no paws. See you tonight at 7pm!

TONIGHT: Dumbo Gets Mad In-store

Besides Two Boots pizza, the greatest thing to migrate from Northern Italy to Los Angeles is Dumbo Gets Mad! Come taste them TONIGHT for a FREE in-store at 7pm.

Dumbo Gets Mad has elements of psychedelic funk, which perfectly mirrors the band's attitude of “no matter what it sounded like, it had to be psychedelic!” while recording. Elephants at the Door, released on Bad Panda Records, "was recorded sans fancy technology, using old-fashioned equipment like analog synthesizers and tape machines—and lots of good vibes." If you are at all into feel-good psych (think Tame Impala) this in-store is a must for ya!

Have your way with "Marmelade Kids" and we hope to see you put the moves on tonight at 7pm!

OV PRESENTS: METZ, Batwings Catwings, Vinyl Williams 11/7

Origami Vinyl and FYF are up to some diabolical planning once again! This time we're presenting METZ at The Echo on Wednesday, November 7th at pm. If you purchase the new METZ LP from us, you get a FREE ticket to the show, which Batwings Catwings and Vinyl Williams are playing too!!!

Subpop just released METZ and this is what the label proudly proclaims of the band: "Metz play like one brutally heavy instrument with three heads, slashing heavy-gauge strings, bending guitar and bass necks in weird unison, along with what is probably the loudest drumming you’ve ever heard. It’s a return to everything that’s good about loud, ecstatic live music ... They play the instruments, the amps, and the room ... I’ve seen a hundred jaws drop within the first four measures of their set." Check out the video for "Wet Blanket" to pick up those heavy riffs.

As the great Sir Mixalot once said, JUMP ON IT! See you in the shop!

TONIGHT! OV PRESENTS: THREE shows sure to rattle your bones!

TONIGHT: Jack Ladder & the Dreamlanders in-store!

I'm keeping this short and sweet so you have more time to plan how you're getting to Origami Vinyl Friday night to see Jack Ladder and the Dreamlanders perform live at 7pm!

Straight outta Australia, Jack Ladder and the Dreamlanders released Hurtsville on Holloweyed Records. A "cinematic, brooding and impacting in its delivery; it's easy to say Hurtsville finds the two-time Australian Music Prize nominee at his absolute best." Mashing vintage production techniques with a deep voice that plays on darker emotions of regret and misguided love, these Aussies will grab your heart and not let go.

Listen to "Dumb Love" cuz that's all you'll have for Jack Ladder and the Dreamlanders after you are blown away by their FREE in-store tonight at 7pm!

Geoff’s tom-toms thud with a tribal intensity. TONIGHT: Matt Bauer In-store 7pm

Why is Matt Bauer so sad? He thinks you aren't going to show up for his in-store TONIGHT at 7pm.  He's obviously wrong though because you know you can't miss a free OV in-store with Matt Bauer!

In addition to making Matt happy, tonight you'll see the indie folk guitar and banjo stylings of this Kentucky-born artist come to life. His new EP, No Shape Can Hold Me Now, drops October 23rd on Crossbill Records. The single below is about "wandering a new city with friends before playing a show, finding the melody to a new song in the shadow of a giant black church made of lava rock."
