IN-STORE: Greater California TONIGHT @ 5 PM!!

Catch Greater California TONIGHT @ 5 PM!!

Long Beach locals, Greater California, are dropping by OV tonight and bringing some sweet tunes with them. Ready to banish the rain away, this band seems to capture the Long Beach sunshine and the warmth of the West Coast into their music, and boy do they accomplish bright and shining reviews.

There new single "Long Shadows", released October 21st via Porch Party Records has heavy 60's style folk psychedelia influences, and is a perfectly crafted LA single. If you aren't listening to this while driving down PCH with the top down, you aren't doing it right.

IN-STORE: Celestial Shore TONIGHT @ 6:30 PM!!

Come Check out Celestial Shore TONIGHT at OV @ 6:30 PM!

Celestial Shore is finally making the trek from Brooklyn to the West Coast, and oh boy, and we glad to have the at OV! This bare bones, no frills band really knows how to rock. You can dance to it, or just jam to it, but either way this band is going to wiggle their way into your heart and your Fall Playlist.

Their recently released album "Enter Ghost", released on Hometapes, is direct and confrontational, just how we like 'em. Celestial Shore has definitely not fallen into a sophomore slump, because their new album is gold. It may be mellow, but dancing around is unavoidable when this band is bumping. Insider tip: Gloria isn't about a girl at all, they just love New York that much. It's amazing and adorable in all of the best ways.  So catch them while they are exploring the West Coast, before NYC calls them home!

Wednesday, November 19th
Cold Specks @ The Echo!

Like an off-label industrial process or cult ritual conducted in the dead of night, an artery flowing open in spurts or a complex society on the verge of collapse, Cold Specks' Neuroplasticity is both terrifying and morbidly enthralling to witness. Having returned after two years and a world map of tours following 2012's I Predict a Graceful Expulsion, tonight's the night to see 26 year-old Canadian singer under the sobriquet Al Spx rare talent and depth of feeling live on stage as the Echo. Breathlessly described and received overseas, Cold Specks are looking to conquer American airwaves and we fully expect them to begin their ascension tonight at The Echo!

Thursday, November 20th
Celestial Shore In-Store @ 6:30PM!

Celestial Shore is finally making the trek from Brooklyn to the West Coast, and oh boy, and we glad to have them at OV! This bare bones, no frills band really knows how to rock. You can dance to it, or just jam to it, but either way this band is going to wiggle their way into your heart and your Fall Playlist. Their recently released album Enter Ghost, released on Hometapes, is direct and confrontational, just how we like 'em. So catch them while they are exploring the West Coast, before NYC calls them home! The show gets started at 6:30, which may be confusing for OV regulars, but we know you can manage it!

Friday, November 21st
Morgan Delt @ The Echo!

Awwww yeah. We love seeing OV faves live, and in the case of Morgan Delt, we've been waiting a while. Progenitors of one of our favorite psych records of the year, Morgan Delt's self-titled goes down rabbit holes with glee, trending upwards, inwards and outwards all at once. It's a super heady album that never manages to be overwrought, sending out waves of psych distortion that remind us of the better part of L.A heat waves. As one of OV's own put it: "Frantic, unrelenting and slightly unhinged, this record blares and blinks at you like one big psychedelic carnival. Don't be afraid to get lost." However, you should be afraid on missing out on this show, so you better get ready quick for tonight's show at The Echo!

Now that we've planned your week, make sure to get more than 7 hours of sleep a night! It's really necessary to healthy living!!

Single Mothers In-Store @ 7PM! Psychedelic Furs + The Lemonheads @ Fonda Theatre!

Single Mothers broke up in 2009, and have been playing together ever since. Their drunk, scab-peeling punk combined with shout-out lyrics makes them a real crowd pleaser. And believe us, this band isn't afraid to talk about anything. Single Mothers is raw, gritty, OG punk. Two minute punk masterpieces, just like it should be.

After years of internal conflict, the band has finally completed their debut album Negative Qualities on HXC Recordings and Dine Alone. Lyrical topics include: asshole drunks, hypocrites, god, snobs, and more. Single Mothers hasn't forgotten to make a comment on anything controversial here, and definitely isn't concerned with PC dinner conversation topics. You need to be at OV for this one.

After Single Mothers at OV, join us for a crazy good double bill at the Fonda: The Psychedelic Furs & The Lemonheads! 80s and 90s veterans, these two acts are tough to find apart, but even more so with a double bill like this one! If you were to dissect the alternative rock dominating todays music, youll find that much of it pays homage to The Psychedelic Furs. Led by vocalist and songwriter Richard Butler, and his bass-wielding brother Tim, the Furs won over fans and critics alike by combining poetic lyrics, innovative rhythms and melodies driven by an aggressive, punk desperation. The Lemonheads have also had a major impact on indie music as we know it, beginning as a 80s punk band and growing to a college rock mainstay throughout the 90s with hits like "Mrs. Robinson" and "It's A Shame About Ray". Now together on the same stage at the Fonda, we're super stoked to see these two legendary bands on stage at once! Catch us at the Fonda at 9PM!

Now that we've planned your week, you better search your wardrobe for that perfect pink boa. We're expecting you to get dressed up for Tuesday y'know.

NATIONAL ARIEL PINK MONTH: pom pom Madness Begins!

With the thankful season upon us, we're celebrating how grateful we are for the psycho-genius mind of Ariel Pink by presenting a cornucopia of exclusive events in advance of his new album pom pom!  (Preorder is right on over here.)

Featuring more fun than you can shake half a wishbone at, we've got a full plate of Ariel Pink awesome starting THIS WEEK at OV!

Firstly, we're getting the Ariel Pink party started with an exclusive peek into pom pom Tuesday at El Prado! As part of RCLA, we'll be premiering his new album before anyone else! Across its 17 tracks and 69 minutes, pom pom is unfiltered Ariel Pink, featuring infectious tales of romance, murder, frog princes and Jell-O. The record sees the Los Angeles native strike it out alone, returning to the solo moniker he has adopted for well over a decade. It's a brand new (or is it?) version of Ariel and we're so stoked to hear it all for the first time! To make things even sweeter, we've got some special treats to enjoy while the record spins at El Prado. First up, we'll have a super limited-edition cassette on hand for those of y'all who gotta have Ariel in your '95 Camry and also Ariel Pink themed donuts courtesy of Donut Friend! Can you guess what color those donuts will be? We're stumped. The party gets started at 9PM and goes until everyone collapses in a Donut/Drink/Ariel Pink™ coma. It's gonna be awesome!

But seriously...we have cassettes!! Record Club. Cassettes. You dig?

Then, on Saturday, we're giving you the opportunity to live out your rockstar fantasies with an afternoon of Ariel Pink themed limo rides! Ride in style in our pink stretch job and enjoy LA's finest sites with pom pom on the system! Make sure to let all your haters know where they can see you and take Saturday off to prove to the world you've truly made it. RSVPs are required for entry but do not guarantee a ride, so you better show up early if you wanna cruise with AP & pom pom!

<<<RSVP here>>>

And then to top it all off, Monday 11/17, we're gonna be having a wild 'n' out pizza party in the shop featuring ARIEL PINK BRANDED PIZZAS courtesy of Two Boots! Which is literally the best collectible item we can think of and we expect to see these suckers go for thousands in 2024. Come check out Cave Clove TONIGHT @ 4 PM!

Closing out a busy week at OV, the Oakland grown band of babes Cave Clove is rolling through! Sensuous and hazy, Cave Clove's desert-fried Americana is the perfect soundtrack to a quiet Sunday afternoon at OV. A four piece psych-folk ensemble, Cave Clove also plays with traditional Americana, soul, and R&B sensibilities. In combination with their obvious rock 'n' roll chops, Cave Clove's unique mix of genres creates a stellar sound that is all their own.
Headlined by their soulful harmonies and liquid guitar solos, Cave Clove represents another chapter in the ever-evolving book of Americana. In support of their newest 7" Kyrie, released on Royal Oakie Records, we're stoked what to see what Cave Clove brings to the loft and hope you can join us for some afternoon music right here at OV!

IN-STORE: Everyone Is Dirty TONIGHT @ 7 PM!

Come check out Everyone Is Dirty TONIGHT at 7 PM!

Hailing from Oakland, Everyone Is Dirty is grungy, fuzzy, art-rock band that college radio stations all over California have been falling in love with since their formation in early 2013.

The bands debut LP 'Dying is Fun', released on Tricycle Records in September this year, is a mix of catchy ear-worm rock, and avant-garde college tunes with a dash of gothic romance that set this grunge band apart from their Bay Area counterparts. The lead vocalist, Sivian Lioncub, has a stage presence that has been described as 'a walking art project', she is mesmerizing behind a mic. So don't miss out on this one!!

IN-STORE: Twilight Sad @ 3PM + Orenda Fink @ 7PM!

Two Birds, One Day.

Come check out Twilight Sad @ 3PM and Orenda Fink @ 7PM TODAY at OV!

Hailing from Scotland, Twilight Sad definitely channels their famed Scottish weather into their music. It's broody, smooth, and has some unexpected synth undertones that make it perfect to listen to in the overcast fall weather or in a dimly lit pub. Nobody Wants to Be Here and Nobody Wants to Leave, released on Fatcat Records, is Twilight Sad's fourth album, and it packs a punch. One of the best parts about this album is that every song tells a story that you can relate to in some way and its warm, homey vibe make it a must listen.

The second half of today's in-stores, Orenda Fink, has never shied away from exploring the human condition and spirituality in her music. Her new album Blue Dream, released on Saddle Creek Records, is full of dreamy siren songs whose emotion pulse out of every groove. Fink has a mellow, calming vibe that perfectly frames her thought provoking lyrics. It's music that's really hard not to nod along with. With Blue Dream, Orenda Fink gives an intimate look into her soul, and you should check it out pronto. Come check her out tonight at Origami!

OV WEEKLY: A Respite From Tummy-Aches

Still digesting all that Halloween candy? We sure are. Consider this edition of the Weekly a extra-strong dosage of Tums for that aching stomach!

Monday, November 3rd
Amason + Paul Bergmann @ The Echo!

Enjoyed Amason in the shop? Then join us at The Echo on TONIGHT @ 8:30 PM and see Amason again with Paul Bergmann and Wartime Recitals!

The sweet Swedes of Amason have been making music together since late 2012, and ever since the release of their self-entitled EP in August of 2013 people have been begging for an album. We will all have to wait a little longer for their debut album Sky City, which is set to release worldwide in early 2015. But, to tide us over in the meantime, the band has just released the single "Duvan" on Fairfax Recordings and INGRID, and man, do we want more. Amanda, the female vocalist, has a soothing retro vibe, mixed with just the right amount of synth while being supported by catchy beats and soothing vibes that will calm you right down after a long day. The sound is sultry, and inviting. Amason has created a wonderful and enticing concoction, especially with the combination of English and Swedish lyrics, that is very unique to the scandinavian five-piece. All of the members have their own very impressive musical talents and projects (think Miike Snow), but when they get together, Amason is a force to be reckoned with.

Label-mate and Echo Park local Paul Bergmann will also be appearing at The Echo on the third. Paul Bergmann's voice, often compared to Cash or Dylan, comes together beautifully with an eery lone guitar to create a forlorn indie-folk and dark country sound that we at OV are really enjoying right now.  Recently signed to Fairfax Recordings, Bergmann's music has an air of timelessness about it, reminiscent of old western movies and stories of lost dreams told around a campfire at night. His self-titled debut EP has been making waves, so you won't want to miss this one.

This duo preforming together sounds almost too good to be true. BUT WAIT! It gets even better! The show is free! So cancel all your plans and head down to The Echo. It's a show you won't forget!

OV + Wax On Wax @ Madame Tussauds!

If you're in Hollyweird this Wednesday, then you should come on down to Madame Tussauds to catch your fave OVers spinning wax alongside L.A greats! As part of Red Bull Sound Select's 30 Days In LA, Madame Tussauds is throwing a dance party IN the museum and you're invited! It's headlined by one of our favorite DJs, Mayer Hawthorne, and we can't wait to spin with him and all the awesome DJs at this event. Thursday, November 6th
Everymen @ Cafe Nela!

Dude. You gotta join us at Cafe Nela tonight. One of our fave bands, The Everymen, is playing and we need you there for moral support! With heartfelt lyrics and that special New Jersey-rock-band-something, The Everymen released one of our favorite albums of the year Givin' Up On Free Jazz, and now they've finally made it to L.A to play it! With plenty of skronk and driving guitars, Givin' Up On Free Jazz is as well-meaning as it is playfully irreverent, and by golly, we love them for it! Designed for toe-tapping with shitty beer, we can't wait to get our boogie on with The Everymen tonight at Cafe Nela! See you there!

Today at OV, get your in-store on all day when Twilight Sad & Orenda Fink take over the loft!

Hailing from Scottland, Twilight Sad definitely channels their famed Scottish weather into their music. Everyone Is Dirty In-Store @ 7PM!

It's a full weekend of in-stores at OV, and to kick off the good stuff, we're having Everyone Is Dirty take over the loft!

Self described as "bedroom tapes on bath salts," Everyone Is Dirty mixes the homegrown with the musically unhinged, muddying guitars and howls into alt-rock bliss. Headlined by the crazy-unique violin playing of lead singer, Sivan Gur-Arieh, Everyone Is Dirty pushes their garage lineage into heady art-rock territory remarkably well, retaining immediacy even as they add layers of swirling instrumentals. A balancing act as intriguing as it is catchy, Everyone Is Dirty is looking to move up in the world after a quick rise through the SF music scene. Shifting their conquering gaze southwards, we're more than happy to welcome the invasion and hope you join the welcoming party tonight at 7 when the group runs through the shop!

Sunday, November 9th
Cave Clove In-Store @ 4PM!

And closing out the week at OV, Cave Clove roll through OV today at 4PM! Touring in support of their newest 7" Kyrie, we're stoked what to see what Cave Clove brings to the loft and hope you can join us for some afternoon music right here at OV!

Now that we've planned your week, you better share some of the candy haul with us. We're always hungry.
