Mincemeat or Tenspeed in-store + New Adds & Restocks
Noisy and minimal dance static made with pedals alone. We're sold but if you still need more check this out:
Philadelphia’s David Harms started making music with effects pedals as Mincemeat or Tenspeed in 2006, and quickly garnered a dedicated following. Baltimore whiz Dan Deacon claimed that Harms was his favorite performer in 2007, and S-S Records head Scott Soriano wrote in the Z Gun fanzine "This is loud minimalism and full of all kinds of great ideas." Harms doesn’t use a guitar to create his noise -- just the pedals and a mixer. In fact, in Harms’ liner notes to his latest album Strange Gods (Zum), he wrote, "No synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, drum machines, computers, musical instruments." More power to him.
-Dusted Magazine
Also, get what you've been missing right here:
New Adds:
Best Coast “Something In The Way” 7”
Bonny Billy & The Picket Line “Funtown Comedown”
Bert Jansch “L.A. Turnaround”
Bert Jansch “Santa Barbara Honeymoon”
Bert Jansch “A Rare Conundrum”
Jim O’Rourke “Bad Timing”
Scout Niblett “The Calcination Of Scout Niblett”
New Restocks:
The Big Pink “A Brief History of Love”
Yo La Tengo “Popular Songs”
Kurt Vile “Childish Prodigy”
Pavement “Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain”
Pavement “Slanted And Enchanted”
St. Vincent “Actor”
Girls “Album”
Bill Callahan “Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle”
Death “…For The Whole World To See”

The Street & Babe Shadow Live in the Origami Loft @ 8pm Tonight!
The Street & Babe Shadow (Luke Paquin & Paige Stark) will be bringing us their warm, laidback style of americana this coming Friday at 7pm. Now I'm not trying to do a list of "this-band-sounds-like" but I hear moments that remind me of Calexico, The Doves & Nick Cave...and that's just the first three songs. Just to be clear The Street & Babe Shadow are not wearing their influences on their sleeve. They are just good enough to call those bands their contemporaries.

New Release Day at the OV!!!
We are extremely proud to announce that Origami has just digitally released the latest single of Echo Park's Wait.Think.Fast. Their newest work, "Look Alive" finds the band tackling a more pop driven sound with synth driven beats. You can purchase the song at iTunes, eMusic, and Amazon.
The band is currently putting the finishing touches on their debut full length album with critically acclaimed producer Craig Schumacher (Calexico, DeVotchka, Robyn Hitchcock) at Wavelab Studio in Tucson, Arizona. Look for the album to drop later this year.

The Sound Of Wall shout out
Hey there musician friends. Knee Shy are doing a rad musical installation and performance at Origami and need some junk guitar parts donated to help build it out. Please read Jeremy's email below and if you have anything, please reach out to him. If you don't but may know someone who does, please feel free to forward this on.
Thanks, Neil, Sean & Sam

Subject: the sound of wall shout out...
Hello, this is Jeremy Kennedy, a local artist and 1/2 of the collaborative art duo Knee Shy. I am writing with an inquiry concerning an upcoming art project/installation we are doing in the area. The project is titled “the sound of wall”, and it centers around a 111 string electric/acoustic wall mounted instrument. We will be installing the piece at Origami Vinyl feb. 5th, and also be performing a piece of music written for this thing. Construction on “the sound..” has begun and is going smoothly. But we are still seeking additional parts and materials for the piece. In an effort to spread the word and to keep our overhead costs down (-ish) we wanted to inquire if anybody out there might have any busted junk parts that were unwanted, or ultimately destined for the trash that we might be able to acquire. We are seeking electric/acoustic guitar/bass pick-ups, guts, bridges, nuts, tuning keys, anything to do with strings! And we don’t care about the condition! Let us know if have things lying around, we can take them off your hands, and save you a trip to the dumpster. Though we would like to, we can’t offer much in the way of money, so...a sponsor mention with the show/piece? Anyway, we had to ask! Thanks for your time!
Cheers, Jeremy Kennedy (loopgood2@hotmail.com)
Thanks, Neil, Sean & Sam

Tonight, you need to ICE SKATE!!!
Origami Vinyl Presents Twilight Sleep and Kissing Cousins (Our #1 local album of 2009) at the Spaceland on Ice event at Pershing Square in Downtown Tonight @ 8pm. The event is all ages and is free to attend. If you want to rent some ice skates and try and see how long you can stay on your feet, I think it's only $2! There's also some yummy street vendor food and taco's close by. And if you are really looking to make it a night out, go hit up Bar 107 after!
Here's the address
532 S. Olive
LA 90013
LA Weekly picked this as their top show tonight. Check out what they had to say...
"Echo Park record shop Origami Vinyl curates this installment of Spaceland's concert series at Pershing Square, choosing two lady-led local bands to soundtrack a night of ice skating and (we hope) eating fair food 'neath the twinkling lights of the downtown skyline. Twilight Sleep specializes in a sultry style of synth-heavy shoegaze made hypnotic by the husky vocals of singer Tracy Mercellino. When the project was a solo act, Mercellino found occasional collaborators in folks like Silversun Pickups singer Brian Aubert, but now she's got an all-star indie cast to back her fulltime: guitarist Nicole Gehweiler (The Comas), bassist Nicole Fiorentino (Radio Vago, Veruca Salt), and drummer Davey Latter (Earlimart, Great Northern). Kissing Cousins recently released debut LP, Pillar Of Salt, was produced by Richard Swift, but more interesting still is the backstory of frontwoman Heather B. Heywood. The daughter of a Pentecostal preacher, she relocated to L.A. from Alabama in order to make her distinct music: a mix of Spector-esque harmonies and Sabbath-inspired rock." - Chris Martins
Hope you can all come out and play!
