Birds & Batteries in-store today at 5pm
Come spend your last bit of Black Friday energy with us this afternoon when we welcome Birds & Batteries from S.F.
Their new album "Panorama" (out on Spune/Velvet Blue) has been called "hard-to-describe-but-easy-to-love" by The SF Weekly. Birds & Batteries expertly dive into varying styles that never seem ill-fit be it the epic pulsing of "Some Hypnotic Flash" or the laid back fuzz of "Raincheck".
Check them out at 5pm in our loft.

Happy Black Friday!!!
The day after Thanksgiving has traditionally been called Black Friday. It's apparently the largest shopping day of the year. But I'm pretty sure that means people in the suburbs hit the malls, because last year it was just a normal day for us and the other shops in our hood. Well that may all change today due to our good friends who put together Record Store Day. They are working with labels to release some very cool and limited vinyl goods! They got really creative with the name of the day too! They are calling it Black Friday! man those guys...
So here are some the items we will have today. They are extremely limited in quantities and will sell out fast, so get here early! We open at noon!
- U2 "Wide Awake In Europe" 12"
- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "Nowhere/Surrender" 7"
- Soundgarden "Telephantasm" 7"
- Dr. Dog "Double" 7"
- Grinderman "Heathen Child" 12"

LORD HURON 7" Release Party is tonight!!
Join us tonight as Origami Vinyl & Hit City U.S.A. celebrate the release of the first 7" by LORD HURON, the alter-ego of Los Angeles-by-way-of-Michigan singer-songwriter Benji Schneider.
From LA Weekly: "Lord Huron is probably Los Angeles' most mysterious band. They've only been in existence for a few months, but has already drawing critical buzz from their EP, Into The Sun that was released online in June. You could almost feel the ocean breezes that poured out of the tropical guitar licks, which were accompanied by harmonized distorted vocals that sounded like they were coming from the bottom of a well, drums that came in like claps of thunder, steady maracas, and accented by odd computer yips and blerps from two laptops.
Sound insane? Perhaps, but it's the kind of laid back madness that I, for one, would like to be a part of."
It's gonna be a party! Yay parties!!

TRAPS, PS in-store + restock attack!!
What should you expect when you come see TRAPS, PS play in our loft tonight? The same raw energy that made bands like Shellac great...the fantastic spastic vocal attack that made us all fall violently in love with US Maple...this only a rough introduction but one we hope is intriguing enough for you to check out this rad in-store.
Their first release is Volume 1 Issue 1 of the Papermade Singles Series. Recorded by Raymond G. live during a street performance in downtown Los Angeles in March 2009, the release also contains an accompanying book. Since almost all of the band’s shows had been street or guerrilla shows up to this point, this issue of the singles series is dedicated to the impromptu and adventurous attitudes of these kinds of shows. Complete with artifacts taken from the location. Come snag 'em up!!
Traps, ps play at 7pm. See ya there...I mean here!!!

Then you should be here tonight at 7pm to check out PURLING HISS! Their latest album, Public Service Announcement, just dropped on Woodsist and they are gonna rock the shit out of the loft tonight!
Here's what Stereogum had to say...
I like how the guitars open up and refuse to stop toward the end of “Run From The City,” the opening track on Purling Hiss’s Woodsist debut, Public Service Announcement. Purling Hiss is the clipped and collaged (and damaged) psychedelic bedroom rock project of Philadelphia-based Birds of Maya guitarist/noisemaker Mike Polizze. This is his third Purling Hiss album, following a self-titled debut on Permanent Records, the sophomore Richie-imprinted Hissteria. The new songs sound like they were recorded underwater. Or re-recorded over old Twisted Village or Siltbreeze LPs, Crystallized Movements and Luxurious Bags just barely seeping through Polizze’s quieter, half-erased home recordings. He tears into full-on aerodynamic drone on “Malice in Wonderland.” “Zor” offers meditative sky-melting loner psych. David Lee Roth shows up on the cassette looping “Bedroom.” Otherwise, this is gentler, even delicate (albeit continually tape-hissed, warping) terrain: “Goodbye Blue” reminds me of Sentridoh; it makes perfect sense he’s on tour with Kurt Vile. Get a taste via “Run From The City” and another album track, the vintage-Shrimper/Goosewind pop of “Don’t Even Try It.”

EXPO '70 and SUN AIRWAY live in the loft tonight @ 7pm
Just because the weekend is over doesn't mean we aren't putting on another rad in-store in our loft!
Tonight we welcome EXPO '70 from Kansas City @ 8pm!
Expo '70 is the main driving improvisational essence of Justin Wright. Having started the project in Los Angeles in 2003, Wright has pushed his project to new levels, releasing a number of albums as cdr's that embrace an eclectic mix of krautrock, ambient drone, space exploration and minimal compositions. Comparisons range from Brian Eno, Ash Ra Tempel, A.R. & Machines, SunnO))) and Earth, but not directly sounding like any of those artists in their entirety. Come out and celebrate his 2 2010 releases, Where Does Your Mind Go? and Center of the Earth
At 7pm, we have Sun Airway, rock the loft!
If you listen to Philadelphia bliss-pop outfit Sun Airway's debut LP Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier and think that it sounds like Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion, well, you're not alone. "I remember when I was first playing [Animal Collective's] "My Girls", and my wife was like, 'Is this Sun Airway?' I was like, 'No!'", Sun Airway main man Jon Barthmus says. And, really, she's got good reason to be confused: Barthmus and bandmate Patrick Marsceill (both formerly of the now-defunct emo band the A-Sides), had been working on the blippy, bloopy sound captured on Nocturne since August of 2008. But Sun Airway's straightforwardly indie rock song structures, as well as Barthmus' midrange voice, do more than enough to set the band apart from MPP's sound. - PITCHFORK
After the in-store we head on down to Footsie's for our weekly Post-Punk night, POST-! This week Sun Airway and local dream-pop band, Twilight Sleep will be our guests! There's no cover and we offer a $5 shot of whiskey with a PBR. schee you tonight!

Sweater Girls + Sourpatch in-store tonight
A few months ago we had this fantastic band called Sweater Girls play in our loft. They showed up, rocked our socks off (that is...if we wore any) and were complete sweethearts!!
We are so very happy to have them back again this evening along with their tour mates Sourpatch for another great night of jangly pop that will delight fans of Black Tambourine, Television Personalities, Tullycraft or the majority of Slumberland bands.
IT'S A TWEE OFF!

No Joy, La Sera + Lower Dens
Well aren't we lucky!
Through consistent tossing of coins into wells, blowing of loose eyelashes and "The Secret" we somehow managed to wrangle/trick (MUAHAHAHAHA) some fantastic bands into playing at the shop tonight...and YOU get to reap the benefits of our good fortune!
Check out the treasure trove we've got for you:
No Joy - The Montreal/L.A. duo of Laura Lloyd and Jasamine White-Gluz mention “doom” (along with “psychedelic” and “shoegazer”) on their Bandcamp page and have played shows with Harvey Milk and Coalesce, but no, their noise-pop isn’t very metal: I’m talking a darker sensibility, the “you will die” in their promo photo, the title of their upcoming full-length Ghost Blonde, the idea of “No Joy” in and of itself. - Stereogum
La Sera - La Sera makes lush, dreamy songs of heartbreak, love, and death - Brooklyn Vegan (Ummm...what more could you ask for?)
Lower Dens - Lower Dens appreciate the grimy atmospherics of new wave as much as the dizzy elements of shoegaze, which can make Twin-Hand Movement confusing on first listen. But when variety sounds this good, it's hard to fault a band for sharing so many ideas in one place. - Pitchfork
This amazing lineup gets underway at 7pm.

DAHGA BLOOM in the loft TONIGHT + Jonsi footage is up
Come get your head scrubbed clean tonight by the psychedelic assault of Fullerton's own Dahga Bloom.
"Dahga Bloom’s debut studio LP fuses a stoney desert sensibility with krautrock rhythms and fragments of long lost carnival jams, perfect for carrying you into the evening’s climax." - Portable Shrines...AND YOU CAN GET THOSE LP'S RIGHT HERE!!! The fun begins, as usual, at 7pm.
Check out what you won't want to miss...
*Colour Revolt was scheduled to play but unfortunately will be unable. Hopefully we will catch up with them on their next go-around.

In other news...
Some of you were lucky enough to witness the now legendary performance from Jónsi here at Origami Vinyl a couple weeks back. Unfortunately he found the face to face nature of the performance to be extremely uncomfortable and sadly had to cancel his remaining in-store tour because of it, leaving Origami as his one and only stop.
Well lucky for the rest of you we filmed it with a gorgeous 2 camera HD shoot. Below are 2 of the 4 songs he performed here in the shop, Go Do and Stars In Still Water. Both capture his impeccable delivery and his endearing vulnerability. Filmed by our partners Jack Schlinkert and Max Sweeney at Happy Independent Thoughts.
For more thoughts Pitchfork, LA Times, TwentyFourBit & We Listen For You all weigh in on the footage.
Also, on the next couple of weeks, we will be launching our very own video site that will feature videos of our past and future in-stores. Stay tuned for the launch!
