OV PRESENTS: Banta Residency at the Satellite TONIGHT @ 8:30 PM!

Banta's Monday Night Residency at The Satellite continues tomorrow!!

The Echo Park locals Banta have a February residency at the Satellite, and you wont want to miss it. "Banta" is like Banter, but with a British accent, because, let's be honest everything is better with an accent. Banta has heavy classic rock influences (think Fleetwood Mac), and packs fierceness and charm into every song that will make it hard for you not to groove along. Banta's smooth folk pop-rock that will be a great way to start your week!

But thats not all! Banta is bringing some great bands with them each week to fill your musical plate alllll the way up! This week features The Mynabirds, Spurs, Elle Belle, & Fools Gold Daughter! Hell yeah!

The doors open at 8:30 PM, and its 21 and over. ALSO IT'S FREE. So you really have no good excuse not to be there!

OV WEEKLY: Please Please Please Let OV Weekly In!

WE ARE SO EXCITED TO SEE YOU AGAIN!

Monday, January 26th
Holychild Monday Night Residency @ The Echo!

HOLYCHILD is made up of Liz Nistico and Louie Diller. In 2010 the two found themselves in a modern dance class together, while Liz danced and Louie accompanied on drums and piano. They began collaborating immediately after meeting and now make pop music to make us think. The LA-based duo found early success in 2013 through their song, “Happy with Me,” which received over 100,000 plays in one week and got to #1 on Hype Machine’s Popular Charts. The band continues to receive local and national support, with Nylon Magazine describing the track as “mind-glowingly addictive,” Billboard grouping them in their annual “14 Artists to Watch in 2014” and LA weekly naming HOLYCHILD as “one of the ten LA bands who are going to blow up in 2014.” Their debut EP, MINDSPEAK, was released in March 2014 and questions society’s view of the woman from often times a sarcastic/absurdist perspective. HOLYCHILD is committed to making their own form of music they affectionately call ‘brat pop,’ and sharing their art with the world.

Wednesday, January 28th
Paul Bergmann @ The Echo!

This week is pretty heavy on the Echo shows, but damn there's some good ones. First up is OV fave and alum Paul Bergmann tonight at the Echo! Paul Bergmann is a Los Angeles folk craftsman whose commanding compositions emerged from his own initial sense of musical isolation. Nestled in the rolling uplands of Western Massachusetts, Bergmann grew up in small-town seclusion, his sonic roots descending from his parent’s canon of Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and Gordon Lightfoot. With clean, true purpose and burnished artistic vision, Bergmann channels himself now into partnership with Fairfax Recordings. In his current creative efforts, he’ll tell you that he strives for honesty but not overexposure, vulnerability but not weakness, straightforwardness but not simplicity.

Title Fight "Hyperview" Album Premiere Party!

If you have been waiting in heavy anticipation for Title Fight's new album, Hyperview, set to release on February 3rd by ANTI- Records, boy do we have a treat for you. These Pennsylvania natives will be dropping us a little sneak peek of Hyperview this Saturday BEFORE it hits stores!.

But what should you expect? Hyperview is said to be a massive leap forward compared to Title Fight's other albums. The vocals are a little more muted, and the lyrics are defiantly opaque. This is an album that cannot just be listened to, but instead experienced as an glorious event within itself. Which is exactly what our album premiere will be, a massive leap forward and a glorious event unto itself!

That's it for this week friends, hope y'all stay dry!

Kissing Cousins:
Kissing Cousins is an all girl band from Los Angeles, California. As the main creative outlet for songwriter Heather Bray Heywood, Kissing Cousins has had a variety of female musicians comprise the lineup. Most of whom were friends prior to joining the band as part of the greater East Side Los Angeles music scene. Heywood's songwriting is stark, baroque, and often sexually charged. With haunting melodies over noisy guitars and pounding rhythms, Kissing Cousins' music belies the sweet appearance of their name and image.

If ya can't make it to The Echo tonight (or if it's sold out), then you best be bringing your fave vinyl down to RCLA at El Prado to give it a public spin! New Years Eve: Time To Party Baby!

OV's closed today: Neil's already drinking so he can get to bed early, Steen's gotta rest her voice, Simone's in like another state to party, Emily is out shopping for the perfect NYE leather jacket (which apparently is a thing?), and Sean is practicing midnight kisses with Lyra. Sorry friend, guess you'll have to wait a bit to get some wax. Or y'know, you could just order something from our online store. Problem solved.

As for me, well, I'm busy getting hype to Kidz Bop:

Thursday, January 1st
New Years Day: Time To Rest Baby!

OV's also closed today. Sippin' mimosas and watching the Rose Parade's 7th telecast. KTLA or bust. See you Friday for our regularly scheduled programming!

That's all we've got this week hombre, we gotta start picking out our feather boas out for Wednesday. See you next year, 2014's been great!

While the last record, Pillar Of Salt, produced by Richard Swift, took a decidedly lo-fi approach, the new EP / double 7 inch Unfortunate End is heavier, darker, and meaner. Produced By S Foye, the music utilizes more experimental instrumentation like Autoharp strummed through delay pedals and drum machines played manually through distorted amps. There is still plenty of reverb soaked vocals, vicious guitar tones, and stomping drums, but for the first time, the songs twist and turn within time signatures and tempos. With Unfortunate End Heywood and Kissing Cousins continue in a long tradition of redefining what it is to be in a "girl band" and what it is to sound feminine, southern, and ultimately, unique.

OV WEEKLY: Hahahahaha It's December???

Don't worry, we got your back when you still haven't put away your Halloween candy and your watch is an hour fast.

Monday, December 1st
Girlpool Pizza Party! OV Presents Kissing Cousins @ The Satellite!

It's almost dinner time, so why not come eat Pizza with Girlpool TONIGHT @ 6 PM?!

Cleo and Harmony will be here celebrating their first night of December residency at the Echo, and boy, you better believe we are excited this delightful duo picked us to eat some 'za with!

It's no secret that OV loves Girlpool, but let's be honest, how could you not? Girlpool has found perfection in their guitar-and bass duo, and all the profanity and sexual innuendo seems so charming and sweet when it comes from Harmony and Cleo. These girls aren't afraid to sing about anything. Girlpool is pure, raw, unadulterated fun. Their self-titled EP was released with Wichita Recordings on 11/18, and if you haven't heard it yet, get on it. You don't want to miss out longer than you already have!

SO then it's settled. Now that you have found the best way to start your month, we will see you TONIGHT with a slice of pizza in your hand!

Also on tap, at The Satellite, we've got another OV rezzie going! All December long, OV is presenting Kissing Cousins every Monday for free! More info can be found below.

New Releases, If Ya Can Handle Them! RCLA!

We know RSD just rolled around, but c'mon man, you know there's gonna be something good today at OV, there always is. Along with all the delicious leftover RSD goodies (yes we have plenty, and no, none of them are Death Grips), we'll have the best of the indie world delivered fresh to our bins!

After you've survived our new release storm, you best be bringing that new vinyl down to RCLA at El Prado to give it a virgin spin! The best place to hear what your local buds are digging, RCLA gives YOU the opportunity to spin your records and even snag a free drink in the process! The fun gets started at 9PM, so dig out those LPs and get ready for a night of great music!

Wednesday, December 3rd
Jonathan Richman @ The Bootleg!

Time for Emily to freak out. Tonight at the Bootleg, Jonathan Richman himself will be gracing L.A with his ever wonderful songwriting and wit. A national treasure for generations of fans, Jonathan Richman has been writing songs, making records and performing live for most of his life, making friends around the world with his guileless honesty and playfully catchy compositions. He’s revered by countless fellow artists, and has built a remarkably loyal international audience through his tireless touring. His deceptively straightforward songs embody timeless qualities of humanity, optimism, emotional insight and a boundless sense of humor, untainted by cynicism or transient notions of hipness. And he's in L.A for one night only tonight at the Bootleg! See you there!

Thursday, December 4th
Angel Olsen @ El Rey!

One of Neil's 2014 faves, tonight at the El Rey, Angel Olsen takes the stage in support of her excellent new album Burn Your Fire For No Witness and you best believe we'll be there! Full of the haunting ballads and shining vocals we've come to expect from Angel, her newest LP puts her among the best singer-songwriters out there, and we have a feeling she's gonna be all over year end lists when 2014 is all said and done. Which means you better see her now! Come join us at the El Rey and we can cry-sing "Unfucktheworld" together!

Friday, December 5th
Talk In Tongues In-Store!

Talk In Tongues is back in LA, and we want to share them with you. The super talented, and recently formed foursome came together in a whirlwind of inspiration, drive, and unexpected common ground. Their ethereal, dreamy, neo- psychedelic single "Still Don't Seem to Care" is killer, and has honestly left us chomping at the bit for the album release in early 2015. Things came together quickly for the band, and after just two months of studio sessions with Fairfax Recordings, the foursome seems to have it all figured out with a sound that evokes the 60s and modern psychedelia.

Saturday, December 6th
Steppe People In-Store!

Steppe People are a self-described group of yokels of whom have kept their promises to their mothers to work as little as possible, cry as much as they don't work and rock regardless of how completely irrelevant the practice of such has become. Barely able to stand on their collective eight feet its astonishing to them and everybody else that they were actually able to keep it together enough to play yet another show but here they are and oh how the mighty weep. Guitarmonies and brevity are the foundation of which they built their backwoods shack. Color us intrigued.

Now that we've planned your week, make sure to grab your 2015 calendars before the New Year!

TONIGHT: OV + The Echo Present Vum / Neil DJ Set @ The Echo (FREE)!

Looking to liven up your Monday blues? Well, tonight at 8:30 we're partnering up with Amoeba & The Echo to present an awesome residency at The Echo with L.A locals VUM!

Here's what The Echo has to say about these new up-and-comers from Topanga Canyon:

"VUM began in 2008 as the songwriting duo Jennifer Pearl and Christopher Badger working in and out of the Secret Lodge in Topanga Canyon, CA. Partners in crime, and co-conspirators for this new throbbing noir heartbeat, the two tread a deceptively minimalist path. Their debut EP “Strange Attractor” manages to be the desert, the tropics, and “the streets” all at once. In 2011, VUM released their first full-length album, Night Sun, on Secret Lodge Recordings. Night Sun lead the listener further into the jungle-choked latitudes of distant locales and explored the dark side of psychic war, whilst becoming a favorite of the underground blogosphere and a staple on Henry Rollins KCRW radio show."

We're gonna have to agree with Henry Rollins on this one (and how can you not?) -- VUM is something worth seeing now rather than later! If you need any extra incentive, Neil will be spinning the tables beforehand, getting you nice an warmed up for what will be an awesome show! Check the full deets and give a listen to VUM track "The Incandescent Tiger" below!
