Ahhh yeaaah. Tonight we have Soft Swells playing up at Origami's very own loft. The show is going on at 7pm. A bit of information about SS - the band is the duo of Brooklyn natives turned LA locals, Tim Williams and Matt Welsh. Previously, Williams had been recording under his solo project on Dovecote Records, while Welsh remained a prominent member of the Brooklyn's outfit Phonograph. The two joined forces over here in Los Angeles, resulting in a mixture of stuttering and snapping drums, handclaps, a ringing xylophone, subtle electronics and gifted storytelling. The two released their first 7" over the summer, resulting in a widespread "west coast buzz" and airplay on both KCRW and KROQ.
Soft Swells released their debut album, well, yesterday actually. Released on Austin-based Modern Outsider Records, the album was recorded in the tiny town of Lewes, England. According to Williams, "'Control’ is the main theme for this record. Really, what you can and can't - and how that affects your life.” Sweet. Come check out Soft Swells tonight at 7pm! See you there.

RECORD CLUB TONIGHT: Cate Le Bon debuts new album
Tonight at Record Club!! Welsh artist Cate Le Bon will be premiering her much anticipated new album, CYRK, for your listening pleasure. Released by the The Control Group, CYRK is Cate Le Bon's second full-length since 2009's album, Me Oh My. Possessing dark lyrical content and a "haunting voice," Le Bon's style remains reasonant of previous pet deaths and the artist's "abnormal fixation with death." Cate Le Bon ended 2011 supporting St. Vincent on a coast-to-coast tour of the USA. She comes to America backed by a full band; expect extended solos and mind- bending outros as Cate journeys through the States leaving a trail of ragged rugs and broken hearts in her wake. See you at Record Club TONIGHT at El Prado (1805 W Sunset Blvd) for a first listen of what the fuss is all about! Also, check out Cate Le Bon perform live at McCabes on 2/26 and Bardot Bar on 2/27!

TONIGHT: John Leighton Beezer & The Klau 7pm
Tonight! We have John Leighton Beezer & The Klau performing a live set at the loft. Definitely going to be a pretty sweet show, especially if you are riding those TGIF vibes like we are...
So what's the scoop on Beezer? First of all, he's the founding member of grunge legends, The Thrown-Ups, which included members from that band Mudhoney. For a quarter of a century, Beezer has maintained a steadfast program of 100% improvised rock music - yes you did read that correctly, improvised. In addition, Beezer was featured prominently in the movie Hype! and also in the recent grunge history book, The Strangest Tribe. Apparently Beezer is a pretty smart dude too, as he has notably made 2-3 attempts at reworking the face of music internet distribution. Pretty cool.
John Leighton Beezer currently plays guitar for Seattle's El Grande Conquistador, Snoose Junction and, of course, John Leighton Beezer (solo) and the Klau. Oh and what is the Klau, you may ask? Come on down tonight to find out ;). See you at 7pm. Remember, improvised rock.

TONIGHT: RETOX in-store 5pm
What are you doing right now?? Okay, well what are you doing at 5pm?? Come get your grindcore fix at Origami, where RETOX will be playing a free set at the loft. It's gonna get crazy up in here!!
Consisting of members from various legendary groups such as The Locust, Head Wound City, Holy Molar, All Leather, Some Girls, Swing Kids, Cattle Decapitation, Struggle, The Festival of Dead Deer, and The Crimson Curse, RETOX are a four-piece of their own unique caliber. Representing much of Southern California's current grindcore/hardcore scene, the band is reflective of the "world's stagnant western culture and self proclaimed counterculture." In hopes of breaking from the constraints of one particular genre, RETOX aims to blur the lines of punk, hardcore, thrash, metal and whatever else by providing the listener with a sense of modern artistic delivery and an educated, yet furious, execution. Citing both musical and worldly influences, the band makes note of past experience as a pivotal reference for musical ingenuity - "shitty childhoods, bureaucratic frustration, and the overall justification of continuous war."
RETOX released their LP, Ugly Animals, last August on Three One G Records. Come on down today at 5pm to pick up the record and for a very awesome and abrasive set. If you can't make it, definitely check out RETOX later tonight at the Smell with Doomsday Student and Secret Fun Club. Only $5. Alright, see you THIS EVENING.
