This Coming Week @ OV!!

We have so much rad stuff going on this week, we thought we should give you a heads up, you know so you can get it in your palm pilot and stuff.

Seriously, if you can make it to one of these you'll be psyched!

Monday, October 14th
 - 7:00pm :: Wild Ones In-store performance. Free. All Ages.
          Things weren't always so wild for the Wild Ones. On the way to completing their debut album, Keep It Safe, the Portland sextet's guitarist suffered a blown-out eardrum and their drummer wound up with a punctured lung. Also, they damn near went broke. But you're not likely to sense that in "From Nothing," a springy song with only the slightest down-turned corners. The melodic grace of singer Danielle Sullivan is undeniable, while the band's mix of buoyant synth-pop and familiar indie-rock keeps things moving ever forward. - Spin

 - 9:00pm :: OV Presents Spirit Vine Rezzie @ The Satellite. Free. 21+
          featuring Raw Geronimo, The Reflections, The Preatures.

 - 9:00pm :: OV Presents Haunted Summer Rezzie @ The Echo. Free. 21+
          featuring Boardwalk, Seven Saturdays, You Me & Us.

Tuesday, October 15th
 - 7:00pm :: Kitten in-store performance. Free. All Ages. Pre-Order the Like A Stranger EP to guarantee entry.
          Kitten frontwoman Chloe Chaidez is just 18years old, but the LA-based five-piece already have a number of releases to their name. On Tuesday, they release Like A Stranger on vinyl and will be playing a special in-store performance to celebrate! Their sound is new wave synth meets 80's Pat Benatar pop.

 - 9:00pm :: Record Club @ El Prado. Free. 21+
          Head across the street with us to El Prado where every week peeps sign up to share their favorite LPs and we spin them! You can also get signed up for the following week's Record Club if you wanna participate. It's super easy-going and we buy you a beer of a glass of wine for gettin' down with us!

Wednesday, October 16th
 - 7:00pm :: Dave Hause in-store performance. Free. All Ages
          Dave Hause has been around. You may know his work from such hardcore bands as The Curse, Step Ahead, and Paint It Black. Or as the singer, co-founder of The Loved Ones. This year he re-released his solo album, Resolutions, on Rise Records and now Rise has released a brand new, second solo album from Hause titled, Devour. Dave will be rocking our loft to celebrate the new record!

 - 9:00pm :: OV Presents Widowspeak / Pure Bathing Culture @ The Echo. Adv tix $12 @ OV.
          The Swamps is the newest release from American swoon lords Widowspeak. It arrives as a bridge between the duo's sophomore album, Almanac, and an as yet untitled third studio record. Inspired by the light-choked wetlands of it's title, The Swamps, brims with songs about fears of stagnation and the pitfalls of nostalgia, but never relinquishes Widowspeak's melodic optimism. The Swamps will be out on Oct 29th on Captured Tracks.

Thursday, October 17th
 - 7:00pm :: Mystic Braves in-store performance. Free. All Ages.
          One of our new favorite local bands and recent best sellers at OV finally hit our loft and we're stoked about it. In the not so distant future, these guys are gonna be playing much larger venues, so be sure and catch their surf-y garage jams in our intimate abode while you can! Their debut Self-Titled album is one of our fave's of 2013 and they just put out an awesome new single too!

 - 9:00pm :: OV Presents ADULT. / Soft Metals / Flaamingos @ The Echoplex. Adv tix $16 @ OV.
          In the early 2000's ADULT. were one of the best post-punk throwback groups on the planet. It was LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, and these guys and it was such a bummer to see them go into a long dormant stage. Luckily for us they're back and just as good as ever. The show also features our favorite synth-wave band, Soft Metals, and the Flaamingos! Killer! Get the ADULT. The Way Things Fall or the limited reissue of Resuscitation, or Soft Metal's latest, Lenses, and Flaamingos' self-titled LP before you head to the show!

Friday, October 18th
 - 7:00pm :: Boardwalk in-store performance. Free. All Ages.
          Boardwalk was formed last summer in Los Angeles, Ca by Mike Edge and Amber Quintero. They were soon joined by Mark Noseworthy on lead guitar. Their self-titled album is being released by Stones Throw this fall and captures a beautiful dream meant for rainy days at home or an endless journey across open roads. Quickly becoming one of our favorite records here at the shop.

Saturday, October 19th
 - 7:00pm :: Matt Kivel in-store performance. Free. All Ages.
          Matt Kivel has been making music for quite some time now (Princeton/Sleeping Bags), and finally he has put out his first solo album titled, Rainbow Trout, on Olde English Spelling Bee. The album is a warm and pleasant look at what to expect. Acoustic guitar and occasional moments of piano provide all that's needed to buoy Kivel's sweet voice. He often restrains himself just enough to give gentle nudges, like the harder strumming in the chorus or phrases like "body shook with pain," and "sweet bird, don't cry" a subtle power. Listen Below - Stereogum

So yeah, like we said. There is A LOT of rad stuff going on this week. We really hope you can join us for at least one of these!
