OV PRESENTS: Sharon Van Etten @ El Rey, June 28
For years, we over at OV have been huge fans of Sharon Van Etten. Her album, Tramp, made it on all our top ten lists of 2012 and it remains one of our favorite albums. Her honest, haunting songs stick with you in the most sad, but beautiful way. We're so pleased to co-present her show with Goldenvoice at the El Rey on June 28th.
We'll have tickets available on Saturday, March 1st, $23 each, and as usual, we're cash only for tickets.
Since we're on this Sharon kick, we'll also be offering a pre-order for her new album, Are We There, out on Jagjaguwar on May 27th. All pre-orders will come with a limited edition 7". Have a weekend of Sharon - check out the preview of the album below, come in on Saturday and grab your tickets, then pre-order the album at our online shop: here.
IN-STORE: Matt Van Winkle Band TONIGHT @ 7PM!
Tonight we have the Matt Van Winkle Band performing in our loft at 7PM!
Los Angeles natives (Topanga to be exact), Matt Van Winkle & his band have been making music on and off since 2006. His newest album, Sunshine National Dust, sees Matt & co. exploring new intricacies of their warm, emotive sound alongside lyrics of home, love and vulnerability. Matt describes the feeling it evokes perfectly, describing the album's aim as "improving people's lives -- just as an old postcard thumb-tacked to the wall above a bed might be said to do."
Now touring in support of Sunshine National Dust, Matt & his band will be here tonight at 7PM to share his music with us! We're always looking for music to improve our lives, so why don't you stop on by tonight and hang with us.
Wanna catch a preview? Give a listen to Sunshine National Dust single "I Know My Way From Here" below and we'll see you soon!

PREMIERE PARTY: Drive By Truckers "English Oceans" Album Premiere Party 03/01 @ 7PM!
This Saturday at 7PM, we're gonna be premiering Drive By Truckers' newest record English Oceans (ATO Records) before its release next Tuesday! It's gonna be an alt-country bonanza!
English Oceans, the 12th release by these Georgia natives, is an elegantly balanced and deeply engaged new effort that finds the group refreshed and firing on all cylinders. All but one of the collection's 13 new songs, written by singer-guitarists and co-founding members Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley, were recorded during 13 days of sessions in August 2013 with longtime producer David Barbe. What's resulted from this burst of activity is a collection of songs that guitarist Mike Cooley notes "goes from chainsaw rock 'n' roll to very delicate, pretty-sounding stuff" in the blink of an eye. Such variety would confound lesser bands, but after 18 years, nothing seems to phase DBT anymore. With their confidence at an all time high, English Oceans looks poised to further the band's already stellar recording history, and we couldn't be more thrilled to spin it for you before its release!
To make things sweeter, we're gonna be selling the record early in shop as well as raffling away posters and a signed copy of the new record! We don't want to say this is gonna be the best thing to happen to ya this week, but you know..
So come on down this Saturday at 7PM and join us for some killer tunes and giveaways! In the meantime, give a listen to English Ocean's first single "Pauline Hawkins" below. See you soon!

OV WEEKLY: Spring Has Sprung?
So it's almost March, which has us thinking that Spring is here. But we might be way off base on that. We're just looking forward to the plethora of Spring-related puns we can make! While we try and figure out a way to use "bloom," "spring" and "flowering" in every blog post for the next few months, why not take a peek at this week's party at Origami!
Where Have All The Residencies Gone?
Because it's the last week of the month, that means that tonight is the last night for The Echo's wonderful set of February residencies!
After presenting last week's Kan Wakan set at the The Echo, OV highly recommends you check out their last night at The Echo before you have to pony up to see this awesome group. Last November we were very fortunate to have them perform an intimate set in the loft and they also rocked our socks off at FOMO Fest earlier this year. Tonight's opening act is another OV fave, Big Black Delta, and we're sure the "special guest" is going to be well worth your attendance. So lose those Monday blues and get down to The Echo tonight at 7:30PM!
Finally, The Echo's monthly residents Kera & The Lesbians will be jamming away in the Echo tonight at 9PM! Another FOMO Fest vet, Kera & co. are going places soon, and with the release of their latest album Year 23 (Lolipop Records), the band's riding a wave of good vibes. If you want a sneak peek at tonight's show, check out single "Snakes" below!

Don't Worry, We Didn't Forget New Releases!
In all our excitement about Tuesday's Record Club, I bet you thought we forgot about this week's new releases, didn't you? Well we didn't, and this week is a doozy. First off, we're sure you know that both Beck's Morning Phase and St. Vincent's S/T come out today, and we're sure you're salivating over the thought. We have too, and we've been looking forward to grabbing these two records for months. We'll have both in-store, but you might wanna get here early, as they're sure to sell out quick!
If you're looking for something different, OV's been digging a new punk compilation that we just got from Soul Jazz Records tracing the rise UK punk in the late 70s and it's morphing into 80s British post-punk. It's got a bunch of underground gems and is the perfect release for the neophyte or the crate digging expert. Come on in and grab it, or check it out in our online shop!
Thursday, February 27th

IN-STORE: Exorcisms TONIGHT @ 7PM!
Tonight we have Exorcisms performing in our loft at 7PM!
It might be easy to lump Exorcisms with any number of heart-on-sleeve hard rock bands roving through L.A, but on their debut single, Love Gone Bad, it's easy to see where Exorcisms diverges from the pack. Featuring heavy blues influences, A-side "Love Gone Bad" churns along like a demented Fats Domino, while "Two With Half" sounds like a bluesier, sludgier version of "Radar Love" that never takes its foot off the gas. Which consequently, would be impossible to do if Exorcisms were playing a set in your car (reader beware). Thankfully, Exorcisms will be only be playing in our loft, and Origami doesn't have a speed limit.
So if you've been looking to blow off those never-going-over-65mph L.A blues, cruise on by Origami tonight at 7PM and put the hammer down with us! In the meantime, check out single b-side "Two With Half" below! See you soon!

IN-STORE: This Is Head TONIGHT @ 7PM!
Hailing from Malmö, Sweden, these indie rockers exploded onto the European music scene with their debut album 0001 in 2010, garnering awards at home and across Europe. Sounding like a Krautrock translation of early U2 records, their unique take on stadium-ready instrumental rock gained them steady buzz across the pond after the release of their newest LP The Album ID. Featuring more vocal tracks and stronger hooks, The Album ID deftly mixes poppier sensibilities without sacrificing their original heady sound, pushing the band to new songwriting and lyrical highs. Now flying through the U.S on a short coast-to-coast tour, This Is Head will be playing a special set in our loft tonight at 7PM and we are honored to have them stop by.
So whether you're a europhile or just a fan of good tunes, come on down to Origami tonight at 7PM for an awesome night of music! In the meantime, give a listen to The Album ID lead single "Time's an Ocean" below. See you soon!

OV Presents Kan Wakan & Lo-Fang! Kera & The Lesbians @ The Echo!
This week starts with a doozy: OV is presenting Kan Wakan w/ Lo-Fang TONIGHT @ The Echoplex! This Los Angeles post-rock orchestral group has been getting nothing but great reviews for their newest EP Forever Found and we couldn't agree more. Last November we were very fortunate to have them perform an intimate set in the loft and they also rocked our socks off at FOMO Fest earlier this year. We can't get enough of 'em, so tonight we're co-presenting their residency at the Echoplex. To make things even sweeter, OV (especially Em) fave Lo-Fang will be opening, and if you caught his solo set at FOMO Fest earlier this year, you know you shouldn't miss tonight's show for anything! Best part? It's free, so you better get your butt over to the Echoplex or we will be very cross with you.
In other news, The Echo's monthly residents Kera & The Lesbians will be jamming away in the Echo tonight at 9PM! Another FOMO Fest vet, Kera & co. are going places soon, and with the release of their latest album Year 23 (Lolipop Records), the band's riding a wave of good vibes. If you want a sneak peek at tonight's show, check out single "Snakes" below!

Delicious, Delicious New Releases!
We don't mean to be redundant, but really, Tuesday's all about new music. Speaking of which, NO's new record El Prado comes out today! And yes, we are very, very excited. Last week, KCRW uploaded a stream of the new album online and we've been grooving to it as much as we can. Check it out here for a preview and then stay tuned for a vinyl pressing!
If you're looking for something a little more.. physical, Tuesday we'll be getting in Fever The Ghost's awesome new EP Crab In Honey! If you haven't seen pictures, the new EP is a double 7" on red and blue vinyl in a gorgeous gatefold sleeve. It's seriously stunning and we're gonna have a hard time remembering to actually play it. But we will don't worry. If you wanna grab a sneak peek of the EP, check out it's title track below and make sure to pick it up today at OV!
Wednesday, February 19th
OV Takes Over The Verdugo Bar!
Phew, you've made it halfway through the week, so that means it's time to party! And if you're gonna party, why not do it with your OV buds? We're gonna be DJing all night at the Verdugo Bar in Eagle Rock and would love to see your bright at shining faces all over the dancefloor! There'll also be a record exchange going on and yummy munchies from the Vagabond Grillyard! The party gets started at 9PM and high-fives will be distributed liberally. So get them dancin' shoes on and come on down!

Take A Break With Beck!
You deserve a day off. Or at least a couple hours. Our recommended soundtrack? Beck's new beauty Morning Phase. While the record won't be out until the 25th, it's streaming on NPR and you'd be a fool not to listen ASAP. If NPR's stream takes you away to a warm-and-fuzzy place, go ahead grab a pre-order from our online store to ensure you get a physical copy before it sells out! If NPR ain't your thing, check out Morning Phase's first single "Blue Moon" below!
Friday, February 21st
Velkomenn: This Is Head In-Store! Popshop West w/ Mother!
Tonight we have This Is Head performing in our loft at 7PM! Hailing from Malmö, Sweden, these indie rockers exploded onto the European music scene with their debut album 0001 in 2010, garnering awards at home and across Europe. Sounding like a Krautrock translation of early U2 records, their unique take on stadium-ready instrumental rock has gained them steady buzz across the pond and the band has their eyes set on the U.S with the release of their newest LP The Album ID. Tonight at 7PM This Is Head will be playing a special set in our loft and we hope to see you there! For a sneek peak, check out The Album ID's first single "Time's An Ocean" below!
Afterwards, head on over to the Echo to catch The Echo's Popshop West featuring Magic Man, Scavenger Hun & Mother! Because one show is never enough for a Friday night. We'll be giving away tickets, but if you don't wanna leave yourself in Fate's hands, you can grab tickets here!
Saturday, February 22nd
Exorcisms In-Store!
We suggest you do the same and get over to OV for a night of kickass music. To get the juices flowing, give a listen to Love Gone Bad's B-side "Two With Half" below!
Giveaways This Week!
Popshop West w/ Magic Man @ Echo 2/21 - 1 pair
Keep an eye on our Twitter/Facebook to find out how to win!
Now that we've planned your week, we hope to see you out there! High fives always welcome!

OV PRESENTS: Kan Wakan TONIGHT @ The Echoplex!
OV is very excited to present Kan Wakan tonight at The Echoplex!
This Los Angeles post-rock orchestral group has been getting nothing but great reviews for their newest EP Forever Found. Begun in 2012, this Silverlake group joined in "an effort to fuse classical minimalism and experimental soul within a more accessible sonic environment." Their efforts have been a success as they are getting ready to launch their debut album and have been nice to stop by the Los Angeles are to share their music with us. Last November we were very fortunate to have them perform an intimate set in the loft. Tonight, you get another chance to see Kan Wakan in all their beautiful glory on the Echoplex stage. The show is free and also features OV fave and 4AD signing Lo-Fang as support!
But if that's not enough, here's what our friends at The Echoplex had to say about this talented group,"Kan Wakan arrive with a striking breadth of vision that immediately places them among modern pop's most beguiling and inventive new artists. The Los Angeles-based group's extraordinary self-titled debut EP introduces their ornate and enveloping amalgam of psychedelic soul, post rock, alternative Americana, noir jazz, 60s soundtrack stylings, and orchestral pop, all reshaped and rearranged to create something both startlingly original and utterly contemporary."
We hope to see you at The Echoplex tonight at 8PM! In the meantime give "Midnight Moon" a listen:

OV PRESENTS: Lost in the Trees Premiere Party TONIGHT @ 8PM!
Tonight at 8PM, we're gonna be premiering Lost in the Trees' newest record Past Life before next week's release date!
In the little that we've heard so far, the latest album by Lost in the Trees, Past Life is beautiful, captivating, and makes us eagerly anticipate listening to the whole thing. This album was recorded in the mountains of North Carolina, and this influence can be felt in the song, "Rites", which captures the wanna-get-away-from-it-all attitude the mountains can bring. This orchestral/indie/folk band can't go wrong, but naturally this is to be expected from a group that has been compared to bands like Radiohead and Sigur Rós.
We can't wait for this album to be released, so tonight at 8PM we'll be playing it in its entirety. We'll have some pizza and drinks and you'll also be able to snag an early copy of Past Life. So come on down and be the first to hear it on vinyl and be the first to own it too! We'll see you tonight, but in the meantime give "Rites" a listen below!
