TONIGHT: Moomaw In-Store @ 7PM!

Tonight, we have Moomaw in our loft to perform at 7pm!

If you've ever heard Moomaw, then you'd probably agree with D.M. Collins of L.A. Record, "It’s rare that an album can stump my musical palate, but this recording sounds like so much and yet like nothing specific, other than maybe “haunting” and “deep.”" He goes on to say, "I would never expect a white dude in his thirties with 330 Facebook likes to be this good!" Heh.

So, prepare yourself for this unique experience by listening to his track "Lights Out" queued up below, and come on down to OV at 7pm tonight to see him in person!

8/31: OV Presents Torches at EAT | SEE | HEAR's screening of Pulp Fiction!

Zed's dead, baby, and it's time to celebrate tomorrow with this week's EAT| SEE | HEAR. Before this week's showing of Pulp Fiction, OV will present Torches!

Torches is a three piece band winning over the Los Angeles music scene left and right. The band comprised of singer Azard Cheikosman, drummer Eric Fabbro, and bassist Braedan Henderson releeased their debut LP Heads Full of Rust in 2012 and recently released their EP If the People Stare - both of which garnered national and local recognition. The Deli LA cooed, "Heads Full of Rust balances beguiling, crisp guitar pop arrangements with a gloomy undercurrent, but it does so in a way that’s always tuneful. Ambience is also a big part component of their sound, which soaks most of their tingling strums and crescendoing choruses.” Come out tonight to check them out!

This week's Eat|See|Hear will take place at LA State Historic Park at 1245 N. Spring St., Los Angeles, CA, 90012. Check the event page for parking instructions. The food trucks for this week will be: Asian Cravings, Flippin Yolk, Fresh Fries, Ludo Truck, Rounds Burgers, The Bun Truck, VCHOS, Coolhaus, Brasil Kiss, and Royal Red Velvet Cupcakes.

Doors open at 5:30pm, the band plays at 7:00pm, and the movie starts at 8:30pm. For more info and tickets go HERE.So, be like little Fonzies with us and come out to enjoy a cult classic and some freakin' awesome tunes.

Pangea In-Store Tonight @ 7PM!

Hey, punks! We got some indie garage punk for ya'll tonight with Pangea at 7PM!

This LA-based garage punk band began with - at the time, teenager - William Keegan (singer-songwriter) recording songs on a 4-track tape machine. With the arrival of Danny Bengston (bass), Erik Jimenez (drums), and Cory Hanson (lead guitar),  they found their sound and began performing shows in DIY spaces throughout the West Coast. They've released two albums,  Jelly Jam (2010, cassette-only) by Lost Sound Tapes and Living Dummy (2011) by Burger Records, followed by the Killer Dreams EP in early 2012. Pangea will be releasing their 7-inch Snakedog on July 30th off Harvest Records in anticipation of their next full-length album.

We've got the upbeat track "I Don't Wanna Know You" off Living Dummy to get you through this summer heat. Tune in, and check out Pangea tonight at 7pm in our loft!

Not at FYF? Well, we still have other options for y'all! Come out to tomorrow's EAT| SEE | HEAR as OV presents So Many Wizards!

LA natives So Many Wizards started out in 2009 as the solo project of musician Nima Kazerouni. In the beginning, it was merely  Kazerouni performing in front of television sets stacked on top of each other, playing synced-up backing tracks. During the creation and release of their two EPs - Tree and Love Songs for When You Leave Me - and their debut full-length Warm Nothing, the band grew to include drummer Erik Felix, lead guitarist Frank Maston, bassist Geoff Geis, and guitarist Melody Carillo. Their unique dream pop casts the listener under a spell, and you'll have the opportunity to see it live tomorrow!

FYF Is This Weekend!

FYF Fest is finally upon us! Can you believe it? I certainly can't! This may be the best festival line-up I've ever been witness to. My Bloody Valentine to top it all off. Oh yeah!!!

 For the 4th year straight, Origami Vinyl is the official retailer for FYF Fest. We will have a 20x40 foot pop-up record shop out there. Just to put that into perspective, Origami Vinyl is 10x40 feet!!! So this tent is actually BIGGER than the shop itself. We'll be hauling EVERYTHING down there + more!! We will also be the only place to purchase music from all the bands playing the fest. So be sure to get your hands on your fave bands' LPs and CDs. We will also have our new ZINE out at the fest, free to all those who purchase records from us. The first 50 peeps get the limited edition version with a surprise inside!! We will also have a FREE vinyl valet service for those who purchase records from us at the tent, so you don't have to lug that ish around with you all day.

 In addition to all that good stuff, we will also have our signing booth back. This year we have confirmed the following artists to sign your butts, records, ticket stubs, and foreheads:

Saturday:
 - 3pm :: Charles Bradley
 - 4pm :: Dan Deacon
 - 5pm :: FLAG
 - 6pm :: STRFKR
- 8pm :: Toro Y Moi

 Sunday:
 - 3pm :: Washed Out
 - 4pm :: Les Savy Fav
 - 6pm :: Mac Demarco

Charlie, now a resident of Los Angeles, originally hails from Scotland where he got his start with his former band, Astrid. He was also a member of The Zephyrs, and The Reindeer Section, which also featured members of Belle & Sebastian, Snow Patrol, Teenage Fanclub, and The Vaselines. With an impressive line of work already under his belt, Charlie Clark has finally released his own solo material. TONIGHT: Lazy In-Store @ 7PM!

Join us tonight for an in-store with Kansas City's very own Lazy! They'll be bringing their party punk jams to our loft, and it's going to be awesome!

Following in the footsteps of west coast fuzz garage bands Pangea, Fidlar, and Meat Market, Lazy have  brought their own frantic, upbeat punk rock to the table. They have a new LP, Obsession, out now on Moniker. It's denim jackets and clouds of cigarette smoke in musical form in the middle of a Friday night house party. If that's not enough to convince you, they have a song called "Party City" which you can stream below. Check it out and we hope to see you tonight at 7!

TONIGHT: Superchunk Premiere Party For 'I Hate Music'

We're thrilled to be able to share the new Superchunk album with you all! Come down to the shop tonight and listen to the premiere of I Hate Music before anyone else gets the chance. Free pizza and beverages will be provided.

Here's what Merge Records had to say about the new album:

"Superchunk will release I Hate Music, their tenth studio album, on August 20.

After taking nearly a decade off following the release of Here’s to Shutting Up, Mac, Laura, Jon, and Jim decided to shout it out again in 2010 with Majesty Shredding, an album perfectly described by its own title. It’s a celebratory set of whoa-whoa-whoas from a group so thrilled by making music together again that they can’t contain themselves.

The band’s forthcoming release, I Hate Music, is Majesty’s dark twin. It’s similarly aggressive—often moreso (see “Staying Home”)—and every bit as energetic. It reflects the joys of a life spent immersed in music (“Me & You & Jackie Mittoo,” “Trees of Barcelona”), but there’s a dark undercurrent as well. That title isn’t tongue-in-cheek, but it’s really more a question than a statement: When you’re 20, lazy co-workers and romantic missteps number among your biggest worries; two decades later, life’s bigger questions knock louder and louder, demanding answers.

I Hate Music is an album about love more than anything else: love of life, love of living, love of people, and yeah, love of music. It defies its own title so completely and diligently that it never even seems like a fair fight: There’s no pain this deep or yearning this severe without the type of love earned over a lifetime. “I hate music – what is it worth? / Can’t bring anyone back to this earth” goes the first line in “Me & You & Jackie Mittoo.” That song and its ten companions can’t relive the past or resurrect those lost, but they can keep them close enough to see and hear and celebrate. It’s dark in here, but if we conjure the right words and sounds, maybe we’ll find our way out."

Sounds awesome, doesn't it?! You won't want to miss this. We hope to see you there!

8/15: OV Co-Presents Ojai Rancho Inn Summer Series w/ Nite Jewel!

Join us tonight at the Ojai Rancho Inn for the second installment of the Cool Summer Series featuring Nite Jewel

California native Ramona Gonzalez first began her transcendent minimalist dance-pop escapades in the privacy of her Los Angeles home. With the aid of her multitrack cassette recorder and whatever keyboards, drum machines, and other instruments she could find, she quickly developed her sound and began performing live in the L.A. area under the moniker Nite Jewel. Over the past few years, Nite Jewel has honed its pop-funk craft with releases on reputable indie labels Italians Do It Better, Mexican Summer, and L.A.’s own Gloriette Records. In that time, her airy but often distant voice has found new gravitas and charisma. Meanwhile, the synth lines have gotten more agile and the bass pops tighter, with stuttered ‘80s synths and R&B melodies that unfold into one another in ways both giddy and deceivingly nonchalant.

Sounds amazing, doesn't it? Just wait until you see where this show is being held! Located in the picturesque mountains of Ojai, CA and just a short drive from Los Angeles, Ventura, or Santa Barbara, the Rancho Inn offers a welcome escape from the routine city venues, as well as a scenic spot to catch intimate performances by these hand-selected artists. (Think California campground meets rustic charm.)

Besides providing a magical backdrop, the Ojai Rancho Inn will be opening its doors at 4 p.m. for ticket holders to enjoy a meal on the venue lawn (bring a picnic or grab a bite from the on-site food truck), sip a drink, or cool off with a dip in the pool.

Throughout the next three months we will be teaming up with our media sponsors, KXLU 88.9 FM Los Angeles and KCSB 91.9 Santa Barbara for on-air ticket giveaways. Tickets are also currently available for purchase online at coolsummerpresents.com or in person at OV and Warbler Records and Goods in Santa Barbara. All shows are all-ages and start at 8 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. Tickets are $12 +$2 service fee.

We really hope you can make the trek. It's gonna be a blast! All shows are presented by: Cool Summer, Shelter Social Club, Origami Vinyl, KXLU, KCSB, and Warbler Records & Goods.

You can check out the Facebook event page HERE.

The Ojai Rancho Inn is located at:
615 W Ojai Ave
Ojai, CA 93023

To book a room at the Rancho call (805) 646-1434 and be sure to let them know that you are coming for the show!

TONIGHT: Buildings + Hawks In-Store @ 7PM!

Join us tonight at the shop as Buildings (Georgia) and Hawks (Minnesota) team up to play together for what's sure to be a night of rad, heavy noise distortion.

Both bands just released a split 7" on Cash Cow Production earlier this year. The split features four songs total, with Buildings showcasing "more of the chugging, churning, rhythmic" math rock; distorted bass and buzzing guitars abound, accompanied by wild drums. Hawks offers "their own take on mathy, noisy heaviness, starting off with a weird sample, and a slow swell of distorted guitar"; heavy grunge with a hint to pop.

 Check out "Snag" from Hawks, off of the new 7" and be sure to join us tonight at 7pm!

Tonight, we have Summer Cannibals - yes, named after the Patti Smith song - in our loft to rock us at 7pm!

Summer Cannibals is comprised of vocalist/guitarist Jessica Boudeaux, guitarist Marc Stewart, bassist Kyle Brittain, and dummer Casey Frantum. Their anticipated debut album No Makeup was just released on New Moss Records on August 6th, and it's already receiving rave reviews. Impose Magazine said, "No Makeup takes a deep breath of burning gusto to show up superficial crowds that act too cool to notice anyone or anything else around them; endemic of the appease and please game."

Check out their catchy rock ballad "Wear Me Out" off of No Makeup, and come on over to experience them live in our loft at 7pm!

DUDES! Just when we thought Echo Park Rising couldn't get any better, we've been proven wrong. The folks at OV are really jazzed to announce that we'll be premiering Sebadoh's new record, Defend Yourself (Joyful Noise), in its entirety during a classic OV listening party on 8/17 at 8pm!!

Everyone is welcome as we consume free pizza and fine beverages, debut Defend Yourself one month before its release date, and hang with fellow music enthusiasts like Lou Barlow. YUP! Lou will be hanging out in the shop and bringing his guitar along to play for us!

Pre order Defend Yourself for a chance to win a signed test-press, as well as two signed posters and many more Sebadoh goodies. Lou Barlow creatively titled all of these super rare signed and hand-numbered test pressings. Check this out:

Saturday, August 17th is going to be the best day ever. We really hope you'll join us at OV the entire day to see the awesome line up we have for EPR... but if you can't, BE HERE AT 8pm for the listening party and in-store!

8/10: OV Presents George Glass at EAT | SEE | HEAR's screening of Kingpin!

While Compassion performs in our loft tomorrow night, OV will be presenting George Glass at this week's EAT| SEE | HEAR!

This three-piece rock band met in a drab, beer-soaked LA bar in autumn of 2009. Three weeks later, Nicholas Ceglio (singer/guitarist), Peter DiBiasio (bassist), and Nathan Kondor (drummer) began playing gigs in Silverlake and Echo Park venues. They released their EP Sunshine in 2011, and their sound is an honest, introspective rock n' roll, influenced by the like of the Kinks, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Elliott Smith.

This week's Eat|See|Hear will take place at Paul Revere Middle School, 1450 Allenford Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90049. Check the event page for parking instructions. The food trucks for this week will be: Komodo, Smokin Willie's BBQ, India Jones, Tortas 2 Die 4, Lomo Arigato, Baby's Badass Burgers, Coolhaus, Brasil Kiss, and Waffles de Liege

Doors open at 5:30pm, George Glass plays at 7:00pm, and the movie starts at 8:30pm. For more info and tickets go HERE.

TONIGHT: Hundred Visions In-Store at 7PM!

We can think of a hundred of reasons to come out tonight and see Hundred Visions tonight in our loft at 7pm!

This Austin killer rock quartet is made up of Ben Maddox (Vocals, Guitar), Eric Loftis (Drums), Wes Turner (Bass), and Johnny Krueger (Guitar). They formed and released their EP Last Cab Tunis in 2011, and after posting a few more digital singles on their Bandcamp, they released their debut album Permanent Basement in 2012.

Everybody Tastes raved about the album - and frontman in particular-, saying,"... [Maddox] really kicks down the listener's front door and leaves nothing but a pile of smoldering splinters...The immediacy of these ten tracks as a whole is undeniable: you hit play and you're sucked into a 31-minute-long vortex containing some of the year's very best musicianship and songwriting"

Watch their uber trippy music video to "Where Do I Sign" filled with corn dogs, Rambo-esque fighting, and odes to Japanese film. Come out tonight to see 'em live in our loft at 7pm ... we won't make you sign anything!
