TONIGHT: CRIMINAL HYGIENE HIJACK RECORD CLUB!!! Ahhh!

Tonight's gonna be one hell of a night!

Echo Park arsonists/pizza delivery guys/punks Criminal Hygiene are releasing their brand new 7-inch "Turpentine" on L.A. label New Professor, and they're hosting our weekly record club to celebrate. The band toured relentlessly in 2014 crisscrossing the U.S., doing a run with Twin Peaks and the Meatbodies, and playing New Year's Eve in Chicago with The Orwells. "Turpentine" is a bittersweet melodic punk gem that captures everything this trio of big-hearted troublemakers does best, backed with an unhinged cover of Devo's "Uncontrollable Urge." Bring a record to El Prado across the street from OV and the Criminal Hygiene boys will spin some of their favorites and some of yours. Of course we'll have a tall stack of Criminal Hygiene records for sale as well.

We'll see ya tonight! And in the meantime, be sure to check out the infectious "Turpentine" below!

SUNDAY: Gothic Tropic on Coup D'etat 3 pm PDT

Sunday. What is it you have to do on Sunday? Why listen to Neil from OV's show, Coup D'etat on Moheak Radio, of course! Every week a band comes on the show to DJ some tunes, chat, and play a two song acoustic set.

This week's guest is Echo Park's hometown heroic band, Gothic Tropic! Their Awesome Problems EP (New Professor Music) will quickly become your favorite four songs, taking your mind to a 70s-themed psych pop party in a lo-fi jungle of exuberant musicianship.

Let this track "Monkey Bars" swoon your ears and please join us for the fun Sunday at 3 pm PDT!

Gothic Tropic "Awesome Problems" Release Party 7pm!

Gothic Tropic's Awesome Problems EP is a tease, but like an insecure lover, I keep coming back for more. Four songs is not enough, I want more! This LA based trio, brainchild of Cecilia Della Peruti (yes, she's from Rumspringa) have just released their Awesome Problems EP on vinyl via LA label New Professor Music so come celebrate with us tonight at 7pm as they playfully win over your psych-pop heart. The music scene in LA has been very good to us all lately, very proud of this expanding DIY community--but Gothic Tropic is a great addition that adds a bit of lo-fi jungle funk to a city that sometimes forgets it's okay to dance and let loose. With Cecilia Della Peruti on vocals/guitar/percussion, Daniel Denton on bass and Liv Marsico on drums, Gothic Tropic is easily becoming my new obsession. Still not sure if you want to come? This will do it, "This is the music in the background of a Tarantino film, or the same jams that make you think about the good times" (Stretch LA). See you tonight!
