SATURDAY: Blonde Summer "Slow Daze" Release Party 7 pm!

If surf rock had a summer baby with effervescent indie-pop, and that baby was born and raised in the California sun, every time it opened its mouth you'd hear Blonde Summer. Come to OV SATURDAY NIGHT to hear that imaginary baby sing in the form of a free celebratory in-store show for the new release of Slow Daze!

Buzz Bands said Blonde Summer is "a radiant blast of indie-rock done in the '90's way - with sharp vocals, insistent rhythms and churning guitars, all slathered in irresistible hooks ... just the way we like it."

And like it you shall at 7 pm Saturday night! Until then, click 'n groove to "Slow Days Fast Company" all day long.

TONIGHT: Mac McCaughan of Superchunk (Superchunk "This Summer" 7" Release Party) 7pm!

It's almost Summer!! Well since we live in LA it's kinda already Summer, so now everyone is going to be talking about what jam is their Summer anthem.Superchunk is super smart and decided to release a limited edition 7'' single with the A side titled "This Summer" and the B side is their take on Bananarama’s "Cruel Summer.” Mac McCaughan says, "I like “summer” songs. They could be about the actual season, or just be songs listened to most while doing things you do during the summer—taking a road trip, going to the coast, sitting outside on the roof or the porch or the beach or wherever...And since a new Superchunk album is a ways off, we thought a summer-themed single was at least pitching in a little bit for 2012." I mean starting Merge Records, releasing nine studio LP's, summer themed singles... can Superchunk get any more awesome?! In celebration of this new single, Mac will be performing an acoustic set in-store tonight at 7pm which is also the release date of This Summer! Join us as we kick off Summer, it's gonna be hawt.

Gothic Tropic "Awesome Problems" Release Party 7pm!

Gothic Tropic's Awesome Problems EP is a tease, but like an insecure lover, I keep coming back for more. Four songs is not enough, I want more! This LA based trio, brainchild of Cecilia Della Peruti (yes, she's from Rumspringa) have just released their Awesome Problems EP on vinyl via LA label New Professor Music so come celebrate with us tonight at 7pm as they playfully win over your psych-pop heart. The music scene in LA has been very good to us all lately, very proud of this expanding DIY community--but Gothic Tropic is a great addition that adds a bit of lo-fi jungle funk to a city that sometimes forgets it's okay to dance and let loose. With Cecilia Della Peruti on vocals/guitar/percussion, Daniel Denton on bass and Liv Marsico on drums, Gothic Tropic is easily becoming my new obsession. Still not sure if you want to come? This will do it, "This is the music in the background of a Tarantino film, or the same jams that make you think about the good times" (Stretch LA). See you tonight!
