Joyce Manor Album Premiere Party @ 3PM! Guides In-Store @ 7PM!
Oh man. You know we love Joyce. OV buds, alums and just about our favorite people, we are so, so excited to premiere their newest album Never Hungover Again today at 3PM! While 2012's Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired might have hinted at the depth of sounds Joyce was playing with, nothing really can prepare you for Never Hungover Again. Taking a new shining to Brit-pop guitars and Smiths jangle, this Torrance group's newest LP explores pop-punk from top to bottom, bringing together the stupidly catchy riffs of Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired with the raggedly repeatable choruses of their self-titled to make an LP for the masses. We absolutely adore it and hope you'll stop by to join us for a night of Joyce awesomeness! Speaking of awesomeness, there might just be a surprise coming your way as well. But you donut hear it from us..
To top off the night, stick around for an awesome in-store performance from Guides! An LA-based experimental rock trio, Guides are fresh off the heels of their debut release, a 3-song 7'' that gives a short, yet powerful taste of what is to come from this rock trio. With vague melodies and distorted guitars, Guides create an immense wave of sound, unique enough to captivate any audience and likely to leave you with your mind blown! So come on down to OV for a new music marathon!
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah @ Troubadour 8/7 - 1 ticket comes with the purchase of CYHSY's newest LP Only Run!
Keep an eye on our Twitter/Facebook for future giveaways!
Now that we've planned your week, I'm off to Canada for a bit. I'll send a postcard.

Building off their alt-rock backgrounds, Yellow Ostrich fused their modern sound with the a classic 70's psychedelic rock, creating a dense soundscape that might just make you see some stars on a gloomy LA night!

OV PRESENTS: The Times @ Ace Hotel DTLA TONIGHT!
Hi Friends!
OV is very excited to announce a new weekly DJ night at Upstairs at Ace Hotel that Neil will be participating in! It kicks off Friday, May 2nd and will happen every Friday night thereafter!
The concept of the night was birthed when Neil spoke on a vinyl collecting panel with his good buds The Gaslamp Killer from Low End Theory, DJ Soft Touch from Funky Sole, and Chris Ziegler from LA Record. Their collective passion for records and turning people on to music inspired them to find a way to make this magic happen more regularly. At the same time The Ace Hotel in DTLA and Neil were talking about doing some sort of DJ night on their rooftop bar.
The goal was to try and bring together 8 people with the same passion for music and would cover a diverse landscape of sounds and culture. The 8 residents would rotate 2 at a time on a weekly basis and the idea would be that no pair would be the same until the rotation was complete. This means they could have 28 different pairings each week!
The 8 DJs are:
- The Gaslamp Killer, Brainfeeder recording artist and Low End Theory co-founder
- Nick Waterhouse, Pres/Innovative Leisure recording artist and producer
- Chris Ziegler, co-founder and editor/publisher of indie music mag LA Record
- Steve Harrington, psychedelic artist and co-founder of design firm National Forest
- Brian Shimkovitz, curator of the Awesome Tapes From Africa blog and record label
- Mark 'Frosty' McNeill, co-founder and creative director of online radio station dublab
- Clifton Weaver a.k.a. DJ Soft Touch, Funky Sole and Club Rubbish resident
- Neil Schield, owner and founder of Origami Vinyl, a record shop in Echo Park
Neil & co. be kicking things off on May 2nd and all 8 DJs will be there throwing down sets! Steve Harrington and National Forest will be giving out a limited edition artist print on opening night as well, so be sure to get there early!
The night is free entry, 21+, and goes from 9pm 'til 2am

Hope to see you all there!

TONIGHT! The Times Clothing Line Launch Party! 7 PM!
Here at Origami Vinyl, we'd like to think friends, records and style go hand in hand. So come test this theory TONIGHT as we celebrate the launch of a small clothing collection called The Times with two events. Come see the full collection and hang with new and old friends!
The party starts here at the shop from 7-10pm with live DJ sets from Them Jeans and Bobby Evans! Sponsored by Eagle Rock Brewery!
Because we don't have bedtimes anymore, the festivities will continue at Footsies bar, where you will find DJs Woolfy, TVD, AM180, The Wreckin Cru, and Hansoul throwin' down the tunes among smorgasbord of tasty treats from The Oinkster!
We'd love to see all ya mugs there!
