Cannoneers of the New Command Live in the Loft Tonight @ 7pm! + New Adds and Restocks

Hailing from past and current projects such as The Pacific, The Beautiful and Damned and Ellie Sky.....Joseph Taylor, Robert Pierret, Tim Galvin and Michael Monosky formed in 2009 and began writing tracks for what has now become Cannoneers of the New Command.

The band just released their debut 7" and will be rockin' the loft tonight @ 7pm

"Their uncoming 7 inch single Sadie was a Girl / Shake the Law is good old fashioned garage band rock n' roll, the like of which is all too rare these days. Sadie introduces herself in style with a guitar riff straight off a lost Primal Scream song. It is simple, joyous and authentic rock music. These four boys don't stretch themselves much but no one expects (or really wants) them to. The classic drum beat and vocal mid section is ensured to be a live highlight, I can almost hear the synchronized handclaps now." - Music Review Unsigned

Pre-Order the Debut Album from The Young Veins @ OV and Get a Ticket to Their In-Store!

Origami Vinyl is hosting an exclusive in-store with The Young Veins on June 8th to celebrate their debut album "Take A Vacation" out on One Haven Music and the only way to attend is to pre-order their LP at Origami starting today!

Primarily the musical project of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker from Panic! At The Disco, The Young Veins formed when their songwriting began to progress beyond Panic’s signature style. Take A Vacation!, produced by Alex Greenwald (Phantom Planet) and Rob Mathes (Panic!, Carly Simon, Lou Reed), is an album that re-imagines some of the most enduring musical styles of the ‘60s, including surf rock, psychedelia and brit-pop. Laced in a dreamy California spirit, Take A Vacation! exudes warmth and joyful energy. The band will hit the road in mid-June for their Bonnaroo debut and a national summer tour with Rooney, but first, they will be marking their record release with this special album release party and in-store performance in the town they now call home.

Our Neil is a big boy + new releases!

Neil was born 1976...

...now fast forward to April 14th, 2010. Phil Gallo (famed music journalist) and Gary Calamar (KCRW and elite music supervisor) had just released their brand new book Record Store Days, which chronicles the history of record stores and their rise to prominence in the 60's and 70's, to big box retailers in the 80's 90's and 00's and the subsequent demise of the indie store. Origami Vinyl amongst others were highlighted as the next breed of the indie store. The book prompted the Grammy's to host a panel to discuss the future of digital retail and the resurgence of vinyl, titled: Record Stores - From Vinyl Past to Digital Future. The panel features Phil Gallo as the moderator along with Gary Calamar, Grant Lee-Phillips (musician), Peter Jesperson (head of New West Records, former manager of The Replacements and former record store owner) plus Neil! Whoa! How did that happen? Needless to say, he's kinda star struck by the whole situation, really excited and just a little bit nervous. If you don't have anything going on tonight, you should come. It will be an interesting conversation for sure!

Here are the deets:
The Grammy Museum Presents:
Town Hall Meeting: Record Stores - From Vinyl Past to Digital Future
800 West Olympic Blvd. Los Angeles, 90015
Starting @ 7:30 pm :: Free Admission

Afterwards a bunch of us will head back to Echo Park for Record Club at El Prado where we can discuss it over some craft-y beers! We have some newbies spinning their favorite LPs tonight as well!

Now here's what came out today!

Summer Darling Tonight @ Pehr Space

As you probably already know, Origami Vinyl will be releasing it's first ever LP with LA band Summer Darling on July 6th. Tonight you get a chance to see the band play songs from their upcoming album at Echo Park's Pehr Space.

LA Weekly made the show their pick of the night. See what they had to say:
"Summer Darling's songs often start out as simple, jangling folk pop, but by the end they're usually transformed into powerful, heavy-dreamin' rock opuses. The new track "This Would Be the Time" (from the local quartet's upcoming self-titled album on Origami Music) opens with Ben Heywood's and Dan Rossiter's majestic interlocking guitars, as the former intones in a hazy, haunted voice. Even as the guitars ratchet up the chaos, Heywood remains coolly somber underneath it all. Like his bassist-wife Heather Bray Heywood, the singer-guitarist is the child of ministers, and many of his lyrics reflect the contradictions of "his dissolving faith and darkening worldview." Nonetheless, that worldview is often illuminated with witty insights and intriguing lines like "We eat our young to keep you guessing" (from the euphoric early tune "Ride This Wave of Good Feelings") and "I've got cancers to reward for sticking with me" (from "The Zealot"). At their best, Summer Darling evoke the emotional storminess of Neil Young's old work with Crazy Horse. (Falling James)"
