TONIGHT 4/22: In-Store Record Release w/ Victory @ 7PM

With Coachella finished and the excitement of Record Store Day still lingering in the air from this past weekend, why not stop by OV tonight at 7PM for a free performance from Los Angeles' very own, Victory to cap off the weekend and start the new week right?  Come out tonight and watch Victory rock our loft with some tunes from his debut LP, Victory is Music, coming out April 23rd (yes, that's tomorrow folks!)!!  This debut LP will be available for a limited on clear blue vinyl via Reserva Records (Victory's own label).

"Victory is the music project of Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist Robert Fleming who produces new songs that are at once fresh, familiar and focused...Victory crafts a sound that is both a throw-back to psychedelic 60's British rock as well as an homage to today's thriving independent music scene."

Download Victory's latest single from his debut LP, "Woman," here, and check out this video for "Play It," which will also be on his LP.

There's nothing like waking up the day after Record Store Day, opening up the fridge, digging out those plastic baggies full of leftovers and fixing yrself a nice Cut Copy sandwich...or a Big Star salad...or reheating some of that Nick Drake up in the microwave...yummmmmm!

Check out what's still available below, then come in and fix yrself a treat!

RECORD STORE DAY LEFTOVERS!!!

TONIGHT 4/21: Double feature in-store w/ Cheatahs @ 5pm + E.D. Sedgwick @ 6pm!!

Wow, Record Store Day was amazing yesterday, and we ain't stopping there just yet! We're going full steam ahead with TWO early in-stores tonight by two Sean-approved bands: Cheatahs (5pm) and E.D. Sedgwick (6pm)!

First, Cheatahs are going to rule the loft at 5pm. "What’s in this four-piece’s collective heart is sewn boldly onto its sleeves, influences translated into musical codes and motifs that made the indie charts of the early 90s love-buzz to the sounds of an emerging underground." These dudes are at the end of their US tour, so catch em tonight for free!

Then, so really make sure you get your daily fill of rad music, E.D. Sedgwick takes you for a spin. The November 2012 full-length, We Wear White (Dischord) "is an intellectually charged message built on honest, straight-forward lyrics, well timed obscenities and an array of heavy handed instrumentals." So check it out!

Listen to Cheatahs hit single "The Swan" and watch E.D. Sedgwick's video for "Silver Bullets" and come watch these two bands cure our RSD hangover.

Record Store Day: DJs Galore!

Record Store Day at OV is going to be a day to remember!  We have nonstop events beginning bright and early when the shop opens at 8am with Josh Feingold of DoLA.com and his DJ set, then continues on until 8pm ending with the special acoustic Silversun Pickups performance.  OV wanted to take a moment and recognize two very special guests that will be stopping by this Saturday during RSD for a DJ set...

Dean Spunt, known as the drummer and vocalist of the experimental punk band No Age, will be paying us a visit and spinning his tunes at 11am.  Dean is also the founder of Post Present Medium or PPM, a record label that has released numerous amazing albums from bands like Best Coast, WAVVES, Liars, and Mika Miko.

Then at 2pm, Avey Tare, founding member of Animal Collective, will be joining us for a DJ set as well.  He released his album, Down There, in 2010 via Paw Tracks.  More recently, Avey Tare has embarked on a journey into a new group with one of our very own at OV, Angel Deradoorian!  Drummer Jeremy Hyman from Ponytail, joins them as well making up a trio calling them selves, Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks.

The entire DJ set lineup is as follows:

- 08:00 :: Josh Feingold - DoLA.com
- 09:00 :: Chuck P - KCRW
- 10:00 :: Bennett Kogon - KXLU
- 11:00 :: Dean Spunt - No Age / PPM

Snow Wite Tonight @ 7pm!

Dude, if you do one thing this week, make sure you come out to our in-store tonight with Snow Wite at 7pm. Promise? Okay!

In all seriousness, I just saw them play at The Smell this past weekend and they absolutely killed it. They're super dreamy, poppy, and psychy, but the awesome thing is that they also did a whole album of Christmas covers. More bands need to be as fun as Snow Wite is.

Open your ears and listen to this gem of a track titled "Dirge Hole" and we hope to see you here at 7!

Nick Waterhouse's Striped Down Performance for Record Store Day at OV

OV is extremly excited to welcome another special guest this Saturday during Record Store Day, Nick Waterhouse!  The Los Angeles local will be joining us at 7pm for a stripped down set open on a first come first serve basis.

Nick released his first solo LP, "Time's All Gone" last year, and has been on a roll ever since.  His sound may cause you to forget what time period you are currently residing in, but you will love it all the same!  Nick's unique appreciation for vinyl makes his performance at OV for RSD fitting as well as momentous.  He has worked with his label, PRES Records, as both an artist and producer in releasing some very cool 45s, like the debut copy of the self-produced Nick Waterhouse & The Turn-Keys "Some Place" 45. "Special sold out 45- Recorded to magnetic tape, engineered by Mike McHugh, and mastered straight to MONO on the Gold Star studios lathe, it further cements what some are calling the "Santa Ana Delta Sound" -- a raw, rhythmic sound unique to Southern California and its Distillery Studio."

Special Acoustic Silversun Pickups Set on Record Store Day

Coachella Smochella, this Saturday is all about Record Store Day at Origami Vinyl!!! Saturday April 20th, Silversun Pickups members Brian and Nikki will be returning to their roots in Echo Park/Silverlake for a special acoustic performance in front of 40 people in our loft.

There is way more to this performance than meets they eye.  SSPU have been good friends of OV's founder Neil Schield for quite some time now.  They have secretly been planing a memorable RSD performance for a couple of years, and now the time has finally come!  More recently, within the last year, SSPU released their new album, Neck Of The Woods on Dangerbird Records and their bassist Nikki Mooninger received a bouncing bundle of joy in the form of beautiful twin baby girls.  Upon announcing her pregnancy she said, "This is such an exciting and happy time for me - new record, first babies.  I'll law low for a little while, but they won't be able to keep me off the road for too long."
Well friends, the time has come... Nikki is back for her first performance since having the twins and we are stoked to have both her and Brian here to help us celebrate RSD!!

Sneak a peak at SSPU's most recent music video, Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings), from their album Neck Of The Woods

Tonight! OV Presents Mudhoney!

We're very excited to be a part of this Sunday's Mudhoney show at the Echo! It is so crazy that such an influential band is playing such a small venue. These guys were a major part of the early grunge scene in Seattle and one of the main bands to help Sub Pop and Seattle become musical landmarks in the 90's. Their EP, "Superfuzz Bigmuff" is one of the dirtiest, sweatiest records I have ever encountered and influenced a lot of what I listened to back then. It's awesome to see their style being incorporated by newcomers like Yuck, Palma Violets, Iceage, and Wu Lyf. If you've never listened to Mudhoney before, do yourself a favor and throw it on now. It's definitely a record you need to hear before you die.

Hope to see ya there!

Denver (members of Blitzen Trapper) In-Store Tonight @ 7pm!

"If you're ridin' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there with ya."- Cowboy Proverb

It's this kind of cowboy wisdom you could expect to hear tonight when Denver rides through Origami for an in-store performance tonight at 7pm. Our spurs are jingle jangling!

Well folks, I hope you got that can of Skoal ready and your moonshine poured, because Denver is bringing the country with them to Echo Park. For those who haven't heard of Denver in these parts, it is comprised of a few members from Portland's Blitzen Trapper, and "It's real good, whiskey drinkin, lonesome country music."

Take a listen to "Reno" from their self titled debut album and ride your horse down to Origami at 7pm.

Tonight! Blak Nite @ 7pm

It's alright if you're not at Coachella because tonight at 7pm we've got Blak Nite coming through OV to play his style of dark and trippy electronic music.

With his previous release, "Shadow Party," Blak Nite went for "something that sounded as if it was found in a ditch or gutter or down a back alley." His newest single "Understnd" is kind of the same, except I think I stumbled into a scrap metal factory instead of a ditch or an alleyway because of how much more industrial it sounds.

Take a listen to "Understnd" below and we'll see you tonight at 7!
