TONIGHT: Shaun Peace In-Store @ 7pm!

Man, this has been one busy month here at OV, and we're endin' it right with Shaun Peace in store tonight at 7pm!

Shaun Peace found his love of music in his family home filled with guitars in Virginia. After leaving home, he's joined many bands in the US and Europe, before teaming up with international touring sensation drummer Fernando Medina and his sister and bassist Sarah Peace. The result is a band blending rock n' roll, blues, and reggae into a sound uniquely their own.

They are currently on their 2013 USA Piece by PEACE Tour, and they're kind enough to stop by OV tonight at 7pm to perform. Check out "In My Zone" - queued up below -, and come on down to jam out the end of June!

6/29: Dangerous Cans In-Store @ 7pm

There's nothing dangerous about tonight's in-store performer Dangerous Cans. In fact, their musical cans are not dangerous, but rather so smooth and gentle that I cant stop listening to this dreamy stuff!

Dangerous Cans is an electro pop outfit hailing from the zoo's of Brooklyn. When I gave a first listen to the "Stayin' In The USA"/"Pretty Trash" 7" vinyl, I was immediately overcome by the massive amounts of positive energy spewing out of the Future Islands/Washed Out/Panda Bear style sounds. If you're trying to enter cruise control, this is the perfect soundtrack to a beautiful and sunny day time hang out.

Take a listen to "Stayin' In The USA" off the newest 7" and well see you at 7pm!

TONIGHT: OV Presents Baths @ the El Rey @ 8PM!

Did this sick poster catch your eye? It should, because the designer of this exceptional piece of graphic genius is also one of LA's finest young composers and falsettos, Baths. And, we're proud to have OV present Baths tonight at the El Rey at 8PM.

Baths, comprised of Will Wiesenfeld hailing from Chatsworth, CA, debuted his debut album, Cerulean, on Anticon in 2011. Cerulean was a beautifully starry amalgamation of post-modern pop and the LA electronic scene. After a year of touring, Will returned home to start work on his sophomore album only to become bedridden due to a bout with E.Coli. He was unable to eat, let alone make music. However, he recovered and returned with his new album Obsidian.

Obsidian earned "Best New Music" from Pitchfork, with them describing the album as "lap-pop intimacy...[with] unsteady, quavering vocals, the shock is in hearing him make a complete heel turn, fearlessly operating like someone absolved of personal repercussion or culpability: He pursues every gnarly musical idea, every perverted lyric." I couldn't agree more.

Check out my favorite track from Obsidian, "No Eyes," and get hooked on the raw, perverse power of Baths. We'll see you at the El Rey tonight at 8PM!

6/29: OV Presents Honeypie at EAT | SEE | HEAR's screening of Boogie Nights!

We got a double feature for you tomorrow, folks! While Dangerous Cans performs in store, we will be presenting Honeypie at this week's EAT | SEE | HEAR.  Honeypie (yes, it's named after the Beatle's song) started as just-a-fun music project, before turning into a full-fledged sextet band. Their first full-length album Fields Don't Disappear - released a year ago - bellows a beautiful synthesis of indie folk and pop with sweet vocals and echoing guitars.

The event will take place at Los Angeles Trade Tech College at 400 West Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA, 90015. Since this is a drive-in screening, make sure to check out the event page for parking instructions. In regards to nomz, the fantastic food trucks for this week will be: Good Greek Grub, Flatiron Truck, Coolhaus, Brasil Kiss, and Dessert Truck TBD.

Doors open at 5:30pm, Honeypie plays at 7:00pm, and the movie starts at 8:30pm. For more info and tickets go HERE. Get ready for Honeypie's performance with their sweet, pop-folk song "Miss Me" off  Fields Don't Disappear. We'll see you at the show!

6/28: SISU In-Store Tonight @ 7pm!

Come join us tonight at 7pm for the ethereal, synth-y sounds of SISU!
SISU is the project of Sandra Vu, who also happens to drum for Dum Dum Girls. But if you're tempted to compare the two bands, I'd like to stop you right there. With SISU, Sandy trades the drums for a guitar and manages to create something very different from Dum Dum Girls--combining tribal drums, 80's synth elements, and jangly, distant guitar riffs. The result is a dark, dreamy, and mystifying 5-song EP entitled Light Eyes which was released in cassette form through Burger Records earlier this year as well as on vinyl through Mono Prism.

Trust me when I say that you will not want to miss this! It's going to be incredible. Check out the video for "Two Thousand Hands" below in all it's magical, moon-lit glory and we'll see you at 7pm!

Lakookala In-Store Tonight @ 7pm!

Los Angeles is full of musical gems, and we have another one in-store tonight to sparkle and rock for you. LA's very own Lakookala will perform in our loft tonight at 7pm as the opening show of her release tour for her new 7" FFU - out and in store today!

This one-woman band of Nicole Ranalli (vocals/drums) rocks atop her "drum throne," banging and belting out songs with convoluted shades of punk, pop, and goth. She's been compared to "Alison Mossheart from the Kills...[and] PJ Harvey [if she] tried to redo PiL's Flowers of Romance" by LA Record.

Her dramatic and dark style is one to behold, so we're excited to have her (and you!) in-store tonight at 7pm! For now, prepare yourself with "Light a Match, Watch it Burn" off her EP, Songs of ZeMean; it's all sorts of rad.

WHOA-- GUYS. We just got in a bunch of totally wicked USED.

A selection so sublime it just might bring a tear to yer eye.

7/25: Only God Forgives, Director & Composer In-Store Signing

This is a really big deal, folks. We're lucky enough to have the director & writer, Nicolas Winding Refn, and composer, Cliff Martinez, of the new crime thriller movie Only God Forgives in to hang out and sign the movie's limited edition double colored 180g soundtrack LP from 7-8pm on Thursday, July 25th.

You may recognize the two from their work as director and composer - respectively - of the freakin' awesome and critically acclaimed Drive. Well, they're back with Only God Forgives, featuring Ryan Gosling (yep, in all his glory) as Julian, a drug-smuggler thriving in Bangkok's criminal underworld who is compelled by his mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) to avenge the death of his younger brother. Refn says that while Drive is like "doing cocaine all night," Only God Forgives is more like "an old school acid trip." Not to mention, OGF was the hot and controversial ticket at the Cannes Film Festival. Consider us seduced.

So, check out Only God Forgives in theaters Friday, July 19th. Then, come into OV to get your copy of the limited edition soundtrack LP signed by the director and composer on Thursday, July 25th from 7-8pm! There'll be a limited quantity of those LPs available in-store with a sweet 12"x18" poster included with purchase, so get here early and snag 'em for yourself. We'll see you here!

TONIGHT: The Black Atlantic In-Store @ 7PM!

We have a freakin' awesome last minute addition to our already jam-packed June for y'all. Tonight, the Netherlands' very own indie rock band, The Black Atlantic, is performing in our loft at 7pm!

The Black Atlantic started as a side project by Geert van der Velde that gradually became more serious after his first recoded song - a Valentine's gift to his then girlfriend, now wife - received some label interest when posted on MySpace in February 2006. He recorded more songs with the help of various friends, before eventually making this side project into a full-fledged band. They released their debut album Reverence for Fallen Trees digitally for free in 2009 and subsequently their follow-up EP Darkling, I Listen in 2012, before touring worldwide.

Darkling, I Listen is an immersive listening experience, influenced by psychedelic rock and soul sensibilities with cues from current indie paradigms, such as Grizzly Bears or Bon Iver. Although they draw from so many genres, the music is never clouded or unoriginal.

Check out "The Flooded Road (Built on Sand)" off Darkling, I Listen, and come experience them for yourself tonight at 7PM!

TONIGHT: Young Hunting In-Store at 7PM!

We've got another one for you folks. Tonight, we have Los Angeles quintet Young Hunting in-store at 7pm to entrance us with their gentle, moody dream pop.

Young Hunting's primary song writers, Hari Rex (vocals/guitar) and Ilya Mxx (vocals/guitar) met in 2007, with the band forming in 2009 according to their Facebook; the rest of the members include Patrick Taylor (bass), Miles Senzaki (drums), and Tim Phillips (keys/trumpet). They just released their first full-length album Hazel off Gold Robot Records, which is inspired by failed affairs, a divorce, and life in the shadows of LA's show-business.

Hazel delivers slow, affectionate pop with dark, lonesome folk strung throughout and extenuated in later tracks. It was recorded in a myriad of different locales in Los Angeles - from a former ranger's station in the Angeles National Forest to living rooms, guest houses, and garages here in Echo Park. It's a musical experience created across a geographical hodgepodge of Los Angeles.

Here's the track "Sweet Bird" from the album all queued up for you; check it out, and come by for their performance at 7pm!

6/22: OV Presents Max & The Moon at EAT | SEE | HEAR's screening of Say Anything!

Great music, delicious food, and classic flicks; really, what else could you ask for?!  Well, we have more for you LA. Tomorrow, we're presenting Max & The Moon at this week's EAT | SEE | HEAR. Max & The Moon combine catchy beats with soothing harmonies to make an interesting consolidation of SoCal beach rock and indie pop. The result is soothing, starry, and fun.

The event will take place at Santa Monica High School at 601 Pico Blvd, Santa Monica, CA, 90405. Check out the event page for parking instructions. As for the delicious food, The food trucks for this week will be: Vizzi Truck, Ta Bom, Ragin Cajun, Street Kitchen LA, Urban Oven, Vchos, Coolhaus, Brasil Kiss, and Dessert Truck TBD.

Doors open at 5:30pm, Max & The Moon plays at 7:00pm, and the movie starts at 8:30pm. For more info and tickets go HERE.  In the mean time, we've queued up Max & The Moon's recent single "Lighthouse" below, so you can hear and enjoy for yourself. We'll see you tomorrow!

Kirin J Callinan In-Store Tonight @ 5:30pm!

Join us tonight at 5:30pm for the explosive, arcane sounds of Kirin J Callinan from Australia, won't you?

Kirin J Callinan crafts music unlike anything I've ever heard before. Words such as "dark", "aggressive", and "raw" come to mind, but I'm not so sure if those descriptors even do his music justice. Callinan's debut LP Embracism (recently released through XL Recordings), showcases fragmented electronic bits with feral vocals (not unlike WU LYF's former frontman, Ellery Roberts) making for some of the most twisted, challenging music I've heard to date.

Sounds intriguing, right? Check out the title track of his LP below and join us tonight for what's sure to be a unique, unhinged performance.

OV Co-Presents Ojai Rancho Inn Summer Series!

Beginning in July and running through September, the Ojai Rancho Inn will host a concert a month on its beautiful grounds, located in the picturesque mountains of Ojai, CA. A short drive from Los Angeles, Ventura, or Santa Barbara, the Rancho offers a welcome escape from the routine city venues, as well as a scenic spot to catch intimate performances by these hand-selected artists. (Think California campground meets rustic charm.)

Besides providing a magical backdrop, the Ojai Rancho Inn will be opening its doors at 4 p.m. on show days for ticket holders to enjoy a meal on the venue lawn (bring a picnic or grab a bite from the on-site food truck), sip a drink, or cool off with a dip in the pool.

Throughout the next three months we will be teaming up with our media sponsors, KXLU 88.9 FM Los Angeles and KCSB 91.9 Santa Barbara for on-air ticket giveaways. Tickets are also currently available for purchase online at coolsummerpresents.com or in person at OV and Warbler Records and Goods in Santa Barbara. All shows are all-ages and start at 8 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. Tickets are $12 +$2 service fee.

We really hope you can make the trek and visit for one of these shows. It's gonna be a blast! All shows are presented by: Cool Summer, Shelter Social Club, Origami Vinyl, KXLU, KCSB, and Warbler Records & Goods.

Wednesday, July 3rd
Pure Bathing Culture
The brainchild of Vetiver members Daniel Hindman and Sarah Versprille, Pure Bathing Culture makes the kind of breezy, sparkling pop that only gets better with age. For their EP, the pair mixes smooth ’80s-inspired synths with Versprille’s high and lilting vocals and Hindman’s reverb-laden guitar hooks. Standout track “Lucky One” is an infectiously upbeat, island-tinged number, while “Silver Shore’s Lake” manages to channel Cyndi Lauper with its languid, yacht-rock-inspired guitar tones.

Thursday, August 15th
Nite Jewel
California native Ramona Gonzalez first began her transcendent minimalist dance-pop escapades in the privacy of her Los Angeles home. With the aid of her multitrack cassette recorder and whatever keyboards, drum machines, and other instruments she could find, she quickly developed her sound and began performing live in the L.A. area under the moniker Nite Jewel. Over the past few years, Nite Jewel has honed its pop-funk craft with releases on reputable indie labels Italians Do It Better, Mexican Summer, Secretly Canadian and L.A.’s own Gloriette Records. In that time, her airy but often distant voice has found new gravitas and charisma. Meanwhile, the synth lines have gotten more agile and the bass pops tighter, with stuttered ‘80s synths and R&B melodies that unfold into one another in ways both giddy and deceivingly nonchalant.

Wednesday, September 25th
No Age
Forever cascading forward in a positive direction, gleefully instinctive, No Age erupt out of your speakers, blasting away the clouds above L.A.’s smoggy cityscape to reveal a solar flaring sun. With an ecstatic force bubbling around and beyond their music, they release contagious energy like they’re main-lining a field full of whirring wind turbines, while tuned into an ancient celestial power source.

The in-stores keep on rolling tonight at 7pm with Human Behavior from Tuscon!

The band originally formed as a one-man endeavor in 2011, but has grown since then to include thirteen members. Human Behavior craft earnest folk-pop melodies reminiscent of The Wooden Birds (ex-American Analog Set), Cass McCombs, and mewithoutYou. Their first full-length, Golgotha, will be released this month on vinyl through Folktale Records.

For your enjoyment we've provided a link to "Always Cold" from their upcoming full-length. Check it out, yeah? And hey, if you dig it (which you will) be sure to stop by tonight at 7! See you then!

Water Liars In-Store Tonight @ 7PM!

Who's ready for some fan-folkin'-tastic music?! We are! And, just in time, because we have Water Liars in-store tonight at 7pm.

This folk-rockin' duo of Justin Kinkel-Schuster (songwriter/guitarist) and Andrew Bryant (drummer/multi-instrumentalist) met by chance in Pittsboro, Mississipi in 2011 and have been making music ever since, culminating in their first album Phantom Limb in 2012. They recently released their sophomore album WYOMING on Big Legal Mess/Fat Possum Records, which MTVHive described as "a carefully shaded album that seems to dwell in complicated feelings and glimpses of euphoria. It’s earnest, honest and poetic, and...everyone can relate to it." After listening to WYOMING myself, I couldn't agree more, which is why I can't wait for tonight.

But, hey, don't take my word for it; check out the rootsy, lonesome track "Fake Heat" off WYOMING, and see - or hear - for yourself. I bet you'll be ear-deep in the album soon after and we'll see you here at 7pm!

TONIGHT: The Well In-Store @ 7PM!

Hey. Tonight's in-store with The Well is going to thrash, and you should be here to get in on the action.

This doom-laden-rock trio of Ian Graham (guitar and vocals), Lisa Alley (bassist and vocals), and Jason Sullivan (drummer) feature heavy walls of sound, big riffs, and male/female vocal unison that transcends the lyrics to a freakin' different level of metal all-together. The Impaler Speaks called The Well's debut 7" seven "the most disturbingly beautiful groove-laden doom I’d ever heard in… well, I’ve never really heard anything quite like this."

Sounds awesome, right? Right. So, be here at 7pm to experience their awesomeness. In the mean time, listen to their debut 7" seven and prepare to be entranced by their consoling vocals and unforgiving rock.

The Singles In-Store Tonight @ 8pm!

Man the month of June has been a hectic one, but we're going to keep on trucking over here at Origami with yet another in-store performance tonight at 8pm, this time from The Singles!

"...the Singles exhibit a prismatic spectrum of pop, rock, country, girl group sounds and modern alternative. Like the geologic forces of nature that coalesce to form the brightest minerals, the group’s multitude of influences bear traces of the Everly Brothers (a cover of “When Will I Be Loved” fits comfortably alongside originals), Bobbie Gentry, the British Invasion, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris and Buddy Holly. Call the male-female harmony/countrapuntal vocals a smoother variation of Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood or a hipper Sonny and Cher, but the sound is still their own."

We've got one of their most recent singles cued up for you below titled "(She's Got) A Heart Of Stone." Listen to it because it's the bomb.com

OV Presents BEACH PARTY + DJ Neil Schield at EAT | SEE | HEAR's screening of FIGHT CLUB This Saturday!

Yours truly will also be gracing the decks for a 2 hour DJ set before the band plays. The event will take place at LA State Historic Park (Where FYF Fest happens) at 1245 N. Spring Street. EL ELLE In-Store Tonight @ 7pm!

Tonight, at 7pm, we will be having an in-store performance from LA/SF based musician EL ELLE. Are you ready?!?!

"The Full-Length debut EL ELLE album is an eclectic batch of vocal-driven songs that explores a variety of musical expressions of the unstable love condition. From the hyper-danceable Astral Plain, to druggy psychedelic double ballad, Honey, I’m Home, to a chilling post- Phil Collins Heartbeat, over to Iceland where the B-52’s harmonies ethereally disclaim the virtues of Euro Girls, and closing with a Brian Eno ambient and Tibetan bowls - inspired meditation drone, Glam Tram. Sometimes Fun, sometimes Strange, EL ELLE always strives for the true expression of an emotional moment. The instrumentation is bass, guitar, analog synths, layered vocals, live and sampled drums, and violin. A few magical moments by guitarist Mason Lindahl, and also by experimental electronic artist, Wobbly, enhance the otherwise singularly executed pieces by Ms. Light."

Aren't you in for a freakin' treat, because we've got the video for "Heartbeat" off of EL ELLE's self titled debut album, and we think you are going to dig the aerobics in the video. Check it out!

Real Live Tigers (Tony Presley Solo) In-Store Tonight @ 7pm!

No, we're not having actual tigers come and play musical instruments tonight you silly goose! We are however going to be having Tony Presley play a solo show under the moniker Real Live Tigers tonight at 7pm. Turn up!

"While Presley remains on the circuit of houses that he used to share with acts like Deer Tick and Sharon Van Etten, who've moved on to larger capacity venues, there's no jealousy at work... Not everyone who plays these living room shows, no matter how tenaciously, ends up at Bonnaroo or gracing the stage on Letterman. But for bands like Real Live Tigers, that was never the point. The point was to be heard in the first place."

Look what we have here, a song by Real Live Tigers titled "Give Up." Listen to it, bask in its awesomeness, and cruise through tonight at 7!

Joey Molinaro In-Store Tonight @ 7pm!

We've got strings 'n things tonight! Some gnarly, hardcore-style, bone-curdling music is going to be played tonight at 7pm from the fiddle of Joey Molinaro. He's going to be playing that thing like a mad man, and you are not going to want to miss this guy crush the loft!

Foxy Digitalis describes Molinaro as executing "the spirit and function of hardcore punk and Appalachian folk" which is accurate to describe this uncommon blend of hardcore psychedelic rock with orchestral roots. Molinaro is a rare breed so don't miss out.

Listen to "Glossolalia, Young Ghosts, Thieves" and get a fel for what we're talking about before you swing by at 7pm!

Simone White In-Store @ 7pm!

Hey Hey Hey! We have an in-store tonight with LA-based singer Simone White at 7pm! Won't you join us?

"[Simone White] gets innovative on her impressive third album. ...built around electronic textures and sparse percussion, with White's gently yielding, half-spoken vocals pitched, pleasingly, equidistant between Laurie Anderson and Joni Mitchell. It's not all Spartan fare; the title track, an ostensibly folky duet with Andrew Bird, surfs a hum of woozy electronics and makes room for Steve Reich-like interleaved string pizzicatos and heavily treated drums, while Big Dreams And The Headlines summons a sudden, soaring chorus from the pervading spell-like quietude."

We have the official video for "What The Devil Brings," and I can guarantee you that he isn't bringing anything bad with this track.

Zack Kouns In-Store Tonight @ 7pm!

Tonight is going to get spiritual, because we've got experimental musician Zack Kouns coming through to play some out-there and etherial stuff tonight at 7pm!

Kouns makes "Mystic, prophetic, life-pondering psych-folk, which seeks to destroy and rebuild society." Reminiscent of a kind of tamed down version of Arrington de Dionyso, it's interesting hearing these different genres blended together as a sort of social commentary, and we look forward to hearing what he has in store.

Take a gander at this track titled "My legs are streaked with excrement and blood." Mentall prepare yourself before pressing play. We'll see you at 7pm!

Sick/Sea In-Store Tonight @ 7pm!

The wheels keep turning in the month of June here at Origami with yet another in-store tonight at 7pm by McAllen, Texas' very own Sick/Sea.

"Their unique songs are strung together by mellifluous, reverb-laden guitars whose dream-like tones could have easily been recorded in an echoing cave on a deserted island in that longed-for ocean from which the band’s name is derived."

"Master Splinter" is the name of the track below and it's off of their most recent album titled "Moral Compass," and boy is it a jam. Take a lsiten to it and we'll see you at the shop at 7!

TONIGHT: My Goodness In-Store @ 7PM!

It's Friday night, and boy do we have the perfect way for you to kick off your summer weekend, because we have My Goodness performing in our loft tonight!

My Goodness is a Seattle-based duo of Joel Schneider (guitar and vocals) and Andy Lum (drums) that cranks out dirty blues-rock that SPIN magazine calls "a stripped-down, fuzz-toned racket that harkens back to screaming Seattle bands of the 1960s like the Sonics and the Wailers." The two met while they were playing in rival bands during a high school battle of the bands event, but the two didn’t connect until years later at SXSW in 2012. These boys are currently finishing up their sophomore album which will be released later this year, so get excited for more tunes from My Goodness!

I had the great fortune of stumbling upon these dudes as they absolutely killed it at Bumbershoot music festival in Seattle a couple years back.  Singer/guitarist Joel Schneider's fuzzy guitar and wailing vocals combined with Andy Lum's loud drums left their tunes ringing in my ears (in the best way possible) long after they finished playing. Trust me, this is an in-store you do not want to miss. For a taste of what's in store for you tonight, check out this video for their single "Cold Feet Killer" and grab a copy of their 7" tonight!

Boards Of Canada Premiere Party @ 8pm!

Boards of Canada! Are you as excited as we are to listen to the new album from these electronic gods?!?! Not only are we going to be playing the album for you while you get free pizza and drinks, but we will also be raffling off a test press for "Tomorrow's Harvest."

The deal for the raffle is that you have to show up for the listening party and you will get your name put in some sort of jar and we will put our hands in that jar and pick a piece of paper with a name on it. Thats how you win! The test press is a double LP, so this is a pretty big deal, so why not come try your luck! Doesn't everything about this night sounds magical?

Take a peep at their new video for "Reach For The Dead" and we'll see you guys tonight at 8!

TONIGHT: Calvin Love in-store 7pm

What's on tonight's menu at Origami Vinyl? Why a date with you and Dr. Loooove baby. Calvin Love is playing in-store tonight at 7pm and he's writing you a prescription to shake and shimmy.

The solo LP, New Radar, released in November last year on Autumn Tone Records, is all the more reason to groove over and celebrate at OV. With musical inspiration blossoming from pop of the 50’s and 60’s, as well as the punk/electronic/new wave of the late 70’s and 80’s, New Radar is an album with a little something for everyone. Calvin Love "manages to infuse catchy tracks with enough emotional depth that they’ll resonate long after the dance party winds down" (Paste).

Luckily the OV party won't wind down tonight. Hook up with "Magic Hearts" off of New Radar before you come out tonight at 7pm!

TONIGHT: Debbie Neigher + Doe Eye @ 7PM!

If ever you needed a better excuse for a pick-me-up to your midweek lull, look no further because tonight we have a double bill in-store with sets by DOE EYE and Debbie Neigher!

San Franciscan singer/songwriter, Debbie Neigher writes music for the piano that beautifully complements her soft, lush vocals.  She recently finished her first album at John Vanderslice's Tiny Telephone Studio in SF, which Vanderslice hails as "one of the most natural and harmonically savvy records to come out of the studio." Come let Neigher sweetly serenade you on the keys as she sings of the "ecstasy of changes in life, melody, and revelation." Then, stick around for a set by yet another San Franciscan-based artist, DOE EYE.  With what Billboard describes as an "echo-heavy and orchestral" smokey sound, DOE EYE will be sure to leave you wanting more.

Theses two female songstresses are on a short run together along the west coast, so make sure you don't miss their LA stop tonight at OV!  In the meantime, check out the video for DOE EYE's single, "Hotel Fire" off her debut album, and Debbie Neigher's performance of her song "Frames."

Emily, Sean, Neil & Christine are pumped for this release! Big Black Delta is the new project of Mellowdrone frontman and Angeleno, Jonathan Bates. BBD has some hissing percussion and serious synths that "go for dramatic yearning, but [are rendered] through dreamily hazy filters" that create an almost palpable wall of sound reminiscent of David Byrne.
