TONIGHT: In-store w/ Slutever!

Self-proclaimed "Philly Brat Punks," Slutever are up in the hizzy tonight at 7pm and you best believe they'll deliver a rocking set of basement punk with a side order of serious 'tude.

Nicole Snyder and Rachel Gagliardi have won over billions with the snarky lyrics, fast-paced drums and  lo-fi punk soundings of 2011's Pretend to be Nice. Conveniently located below lies the video for their new single, "Pussycat", which is the first release from Bratty Records, who describe the cut as "a teenage anxiety attack." Hear the pandemonium for yourself and come show us what you're made of tonight at 7pm!

MONDAY! OV Presents: Superhumanoids Monday Rez @ The Echo 10/1!!

We've hooked up with The Echo and Yours Truly to present the first of Superhumanoids' four FREE Monday night residencies in October!! Kick the month off right by joining us for live music as well as DJ sets.

Superhumanoids is "dreamy pop that shouts summery '60s harmonies, garage rock's raw tonality, slick new-wave electronics, and the adventurous dissonance of '90s indie rock." See these descriptions come to life; give 'er a wee scroll to listen to their single, "Too Young For Love" from their debut album, Exhibitionists.

Kicking off their residency, Superhumanoids are accompanied by a yummy blend of live music and DJ sets by the likes of Benedek, Body Parts, and Cosmic Kids. Hope to see you come join the fun this and every Monday night in October!!

Here's the schedule for this week:
9pm- Benedek
10pm- Body Parts
11pm- Superhumanoids
12pm- Cosmic Kids

TONIGHT: In-store w/ Little Owl

No longer do you need to be ashamed of liking Rod Steward. Santa Barbara 5 piece, Little Owl proudly lists Rod the Mod as an influence. Don't ya like em already? Solidify your fondness of Little Owl TONIGHT as they play our loft at 7pm!

In late May Cool Summer Records released the band's two-song 7" that packs a condensed punch of Little Owl. Originally written on ukulele, the single "Tucked Away, Our Home Mountain" hastily brings "home the proverbial ear bacon with a joyful exuberance that would make any self-respecting mountain man do a jig, or at least take a swill of ‘shine." It has quick dance synths and electric guitar woven male and female vocals. Capture the essence that is Little Owl by listening to it right down there before you swing by OV tonight at 7pm!

Goldenvoice and OV are tag-teamin' you to present Menomena with PVT at the El Rey this Thursday, September 27th and we're really stoked for this show!!

From "hooks wrapped around plummeting baritone saxophone lines and nearly inhuman rhythms to serpentine lyrical frameworks and high-concept album art," Menomena have crafted the perfect formula of a distinct "Menomena" style that is not predictable at all. Their latest record, Moms dropped September 18th on Barsuk Records; give a listen to "Heavy Is As Heavy Does."

PVT are playing and you best believe they'll have you up in arms with their layers of dark experimental rock that is eerie yet refreshing. Look below at the video teaser for "Shiver" from their forthcoming album.

TONIGHT: w/ Indian School release show!

LA's Indian School is bringing the hurt tonight at OV as they play a free in-store in the loft at 7pm! Don't be scared, they'll be gentle. Animal Style Records just released the band’s self-titled debut record, The Cruelest Kind, yesterday so we're having a ball at OV tonight at 7pm and you should be here!

Composed of former members of Audio Karate, Indian School brings "together the musicians’ formative punk aesthetic with an indie rock sensibility, creating something that evolves their musical origins." Indian School maintains that energy that urges ya to tap/bob along to the heavy backbone of percussion and indie subtleties.

Decide for yourself where they fall on the blurry indie/punk divide. Below is Indian School's song, "Cocktail Flu" - check it, catch it, be here at 7pm!

TUESDAY: In-store w/ Dum Dum Girls!!

If "no way" is what just went through your head, all I can say is "way" because Dum Dum Girls are playing a FREE in-store show in the OV loft tonight at 7pm! The line starts at 4pm, it's early but HELL YEAH it's worth it!

End of Daze, the new EP out on Sub Pop September 25, offers a "bracing and daring sonic example of an artist evolving in their understanding of the world" as they use life new experiences to fuel their awesome fire. Despite this noticeably fine-tuned expansion of the band's songwriting ability, all the classic Dum Dum Girls elements of simple lyrics and head-bobbing bedroom pop rein true throughout the EP, sounding as immaculate as ever. These chicks are the tippy top of bi-coastal dream pop and we're stoked for them to play the OV loft!!

Impress your friends by singing along with the "gorgeous, measured, and confidently paced" single "Lord Knows" when you join us tonight!!

MONDAY: Grizzly Bear "Shields" Listening PARTY! 8 pm!

Remember that one time you had a really great time eating glorious slices of free pizza and drinking the finest of free beverages, while listening to a really great record that resonated through your ears, and in that moment, you realized you were really really happy about how the entirety of the universe led up to this moment?? Well, you have another opportunity, cuz' that is exactly whats gonna happen here at Origami on  Monday night at 8pm for an exclusive in-store listening party for the new Grizzly Bear album "Shields", with free pizza, free give-aways, free drinks, and free jams!

Critics are acclaiming the new release as a strong follow-up from the epic 2009  Veckatimes. Whereas many bands find it difficult to follow an album that people from around the world rushed to the store to anxiously include in their personal collections, Grizzly Bear seems to have done it yet once again with "Shields".  Where Veckatimes was mostly written by Ed Droste, this album was a more collaborative effort with the band pairing off on various writing retreats to build upon one another ideas.  With uplifting dramatic musical swells combining with touch-tone perfect harmonies, "Shields"is definitely what you can expect from Grizzly Bear.

Come in and be one of the first people on the planet to hear what some are already calling "a contender for album of the year", and ALSO be one of the first to buy the album before its even released out into the mainstream world on the 18th.   Below is "Sleeping Ute" the albums opening track and is definitely a sure fire sneak peek into the awesomeness that will be Monday night . See ya at 8pm!!!!
