Alpine Decline in-store + New Adds & Restocks

Alpine Decline is one of our favorite new local duo's. Plain & simple...we love their record! It was quite a surprise, not that it was good, and it's really good, but more that we hadn't heard of them until they dropped off their record. They come off as a dreamier counterpart to bands like Built To Spill & Dinosaur Jr with tinges of post rock à la Do Make Say Think. Now, if you stop by the shop there's a good chance you'll hear it on the ol' Origami stereo...or you can scroll down to check out some tracks and get super stoked like us!

Tomorrow night you will be able to hear first hand what we are so excited about when they step into our loft at 7pm to stir our minds and hearts.

We are turbo stoked...can you tell?

Hear it for yourself...you're welcome!

Social Studies instore tonight at 7pm

Today's forecast: Sassy, infectious twee-pop in the shape of SF's Social Studies. This foursome will shower you with tracks from their new album Wind Up Wooden Heart which is receiving glowing reviews from Daytrotter, RCRD LBL, NME + more. It's not on vinyl yet (we're crossing our fingers) but come down and snag up their Weathered White 7".

Also, this is a pretty kick-ass review: "San Fran fruit-jugglers Social Studies make twee sound brawny. Who else does that? “Holler Boys,” layers background bleeps, twiddling guitar, soft percussion and radiant female vocals into a shape-shifter—there is no pure verse chorus verse, and each swell breaks in a new direction. Next, indie-pop croon-tune “Time Bandit” is another pretty surprise." - RCRD LBL

Check 'em out!

Eagle Winged Palace in-store tonight

(((Eagle Winged Palace))) are folk as ghost story. Spooky tales of weird edge of the earth California: Spanish ship wrecks slammed into the rocks of Big Sur; moon faced spirits of silent film stars darting through haunted Mediterranean palaces in Hollywood; migrants aching in the ruined farms of Salinas. A shambolic blend of magical realism, campfire legend and encroaching darkness that blot the mind of California folk act (((Eagle Winged Palace)).

Their lovely, haunted voices spin these tales & more tonight in the Origami Loft at 6pm.

Dark Dark Dark at 6pm + Autolux "Transit Transit" Release Party

Dark Dark Dark in-store
We are super jazzed to welcome to our loft Dark Dark Dark from Minneapolis.

Their latest EP Bright Bright Bright has been gracing our turntable frequently as of late.

The core of Dark Dark Dark is accordion/pianist Nona Marie Invie and banjo/clarinetist Marshall LaCount, currently rounded out by Jonathan Kaiser on cello and Brett Bullion on drums with Todd Chandler & Walt McClements. Over a series of EPs (most recently the Bright Bright Bright EP released in April) and their 2008 full-length debut, The Snow Magic, Dark Dark Dark have crafted an exquisitely orchestral body of musical work that is as personally felt as it is grandly affecting. - Cake In 15

Check out a song from their stunning EP "Bright Bright Bright" right here:
Dark Dark Dark - "Daydreaming"

Autolux Record Release Party

We'll also be having a lil' party at the OV tonight to celebrate one of our favoritest (LA) bands of all time. Transit Transit the long awaited album from Autolux comes out on August 3rd. The band is rumored to be hanging out here for a bit, so stop by, hear the new record, and get it a day early. I think some ale and pizza may be in it for you as well!

UPDATE: Turns out the vinyl of "Transit Transit" has been delayed until August 10th, However the band was gracious enough to wrangle up 10 copies for the party tonight at 8pm. Get here early and be one of the first (of 10) to have this on vinyl!!! There is a slim to no chance the band will actually be able to stop by however. Still, we know how to party, so it'll be a good time!

Pure Ecstasy + Sleep∞Over at 6pm tonight

How's your week going? It's been a hectic one over here what with the Summer Darling record coming out, many new releases and the multitude of in-stores we've been having.

Well, tonight we are looking forward to nothing more than to chill out, have a few beers with YOU and let Pure Ecstasy & Sleep∞Over close out our week on a blissful note.

Pure Ecstasy - Led by singer-songwriter Nate Grace, Austin's Pure Ecstasy make lo-fi tunes insulated by plenty of reverb. Their music is simple, warm, direct. In a track review of their best song to date, the woozy "Easy", Pitchfork's Joe Colly said it sounds like "the long comedown after an all-night beach party." - Pitchfork

Pure Ecstacy - "Easy"

Sleep∞Over - Austin trio Sleep∞Over's brooding sound has sometimes been slotted with "witch house", but this new track from the band takes their haunting sound in a dreamier direction, resembling what Beach House might sound like if they played in a graveyard. - Chocolate Bobka

Sleep∞Over - "Your World Is Night"

Here's to the big comedown!
