Looking to liven up your Monday blues? Well, tonight at 8:30 we're partnering up with Amoeba & The Echo to present an awesome residency at The Echo with L.A locals VUM!

Here's what The Echo has to say about these new up-and-comers from Topanga Canyon:

"VUM began in 2008 as the songwriting duo Jennifer Pearl and Christopher Badger working in and out of the Secret Lodge in Topanga Canyon, CA. Partners in crime, and co-conspirators for this new throbbing noir heartbeat, the two tread a deceptively minimalist path. Their debut EP “Strange Attractor” manages to be the desert, the tropics, and “the streets” all at once. In 2011, VUM released their first full-length album, Night Sun, on Secret Lodge Recordings. Night Sun lead the listener further into the jungle-choked latitudes of distant locales and explored the dark side of psychic war, whilst becoming a favorite of the underground blogosphere and a staple on Henry Rollins KCRW radio show."

We're gonna have to agree with Henry Rollins on this one (and how can you not?) -- VUM is something worth seeing now rather than later! If you need any extra incentive, Neil will be spinning the tables beforehand, getting you nice an warmed up for what will be an awesome show! TONIGHT: Clara-Nova In-Store @ 7PM!

Tonight we have Clara-Nova performing in our loft at 7PM!

Born in L.A but only recently returning to the best coast, Clara-Nova's Sydney Wayser has been releasing finely tuned indie-pop since 2007, melding her lithe voice with smart arrangements and bright instrumentation. Now as Clara-Nova, Syndey's mission remains mostly the same, but with a more precise edge, slithering through more complex compositions with artistic precision. While she has no official releases as Clara-Nova yet, her live shows at the Bootleg have been electrifying, and we at Origami are super excited to see what she has cooked up for her in-store tonight!

TONIGHT: KG Bird In-Store @ 7PM!

Tonight at 7PM, KG Bird is in our loft to delight us with their experimental folk!

Following a personal tragedy, brothers Chris and Tim James found solace in playing music together—Tim on guitar and Chris on drums. Now, ten years later, the brothers James have switched roles and recruited bassist Ryan Parmenter to create KG Bird. Pulling from legends like George Harrison, Silver Jews and Creedence Clearwater Revival, the three-piece creates lush Americana-tinged folk laden with experimentation.

After playing around the Echo Park region, the trio recruited three more members: Will Nicoll (guitar), Aya Kawaguchi (keys), and Chris Park (drums, switching Tim once again to guitar). They've honed in on their catchy, experimental folk stylings to delight us tonight!

Listen to their track "Pull The Mask Off" off their new album Morning Weather, and come out tonight to experience 'em live at 7pm in our loft!

TONIGHT: OV + Goldenvoice Present PAPA @ The El Rey!

Oh man are we excited for tonight! Alongside our pals at Goldenvoice, we'll be presenting PAPA's headlining show at the El Rey!

We've been all over these guys since their debut EP A Good Woman Is Hard To Find came out in 2011 and have been looking forward to their show at the El Rey for ages. In fact, if you aren't familiar with the band by now, then you probably haven't read our newsletter and/or blog in the last couple of months. We can't shut up about them!

They've also been picking up some great press, most recently from Stereogum, who had this to say about the band:

"When Girls parted ways last year, frontman Christopher Owens wasted no time announcing his solo album. But long before their breakup, drummer Darren Weiss was quietly piecing together a new band in Los Angeles alongside his childhood friend Danny Presant. In 2011, PAPA released an EP laden with Americana-inspired tracks, and aptly titled it A Good Woman Is Hard To Find, in a nod to Flannery O’Connor. PAPA’s debut full-length Tender Madness is practically dripping in E-Street Band influence (look no further than the 1-2-3 count-off and sailing introductory keyboard increments on the opening track “Put Me To Work”) but Weiss sings in such artfully-arranged monotone that he manages to tarnish the glistening instrumentals into something a little less recognizable. A good number of the tracks on Tender Madness are straight-up roaring anthems — songs for long car rides and staying up late — but PAPA’s strength as storytellers lies in their ability to chill out and step back. Tender Madness doesn’t go out with a bang. Instead, PAPA closes their debut with “Replacements,” a hazy ballad featuring the smokey voice of country singer Lydia Rogers, grounding the record in something sultry and nostalgic that lingers long after the final acoustic strum."
