OV PRESENTS: The Times w/ Neil Schield & Steven Harrington TONIGHT @ Ace Hotel

It's Friday already?! That means the The Times is back tonight at Upstairs @ Ace Hotel! Throwin' down the jams for you this week we have Neil Schield & Steven Harrington!

The Times, created by our fearless leader Neil Schield, brings together an assortment of local LA DJ's, writers, and artists to throw down their favorite tunes on vinyl all night long at the Ace Hotel. This weekly event features a rotating cast that includes. Neil Schield himself, The Gaslamp Killer, LA Record founder Chris Ziegler, graphic artist/designer Steve Harrington, radio DJ and photographer Mukta Mohan, co-founder of dublab Mark ‘Frosty’ McNeill, rhythm & blues musician/producer Nick Waterhouse, and DJ/musician Clifton aka DJ Soft Touch. With such a diverse line up, the tunes are sure to be an eclectic bunch, spanning all genres and generations!

The madness begins at 9PM! Be there or be square!

OV PRESENTS: The Times @ Ace Hotel DTLA TONIGHT!

Hi Friends!

OV is very excited to announce a new weekly DJ night at Upstairs at Ace Hotel that Neil will be participating in! It kicks off Friday, May 2nd and will happen every Friday night thereafter!

The concept of the night was birthed when Neil spoke on a vinyl collecting panel with his good buds The Gaslamp Killer from Low End Theory, DJ Soft Touch from Funky Sole, and Chris Ziegler from LA Record. Their collective passion for records and turning people on to music inspired them to find a way to make this magic happen more regularly. At the same time The Ace Hotel in DTLA and Neil were talking about doing some sort of DJ night on their rooftop bar.

The goal was to try and bring together 8 people with the same passion for music and would cover a diverse landscape of sounds and culture. The 8 residents would rotate 2 at a time on a weekly basis and the idea would be that no pair would be the same until the rotation was complete. This means they could have 28 different pairings each week!

The 8 DJs are:
- The Gaslamp Killer, Brainfeeder recording artist and Low End Theory co-founder
- Nick Waterhouse, Pres/Innovative Leisure recording artist and producer
- Chris Ziegler, co-founder and editor/publisher of indie music mag LA Record
- Steve Harrington, psychedelic artist and co-founder of design firm National Forest
- Brian Shimkovitz, curator of the Awesome Tapes From Africa blog and record label
- Mark 'Frosty' McNeill, co-founder and creative director of online radio station dublab
- Clifton Weaver a.k.a. DJ Soft Touch, Funky Sole and Club Rubbish resident
- Neil Schield, owner and founder of Origami Vinyl, a record shop in Echo Park

Neil & co. be kicking things off on May 2nd and all 8 DJs will be there throwing down sets! Steve Harrington and National Forest will be giving out a limited edition artist print on opening night as well, so be sure to get there early!

The night is free entry, 21+, and goes from 9pm 'til 2am

OV PRESENTS: Gothic Tropic @ The Mine DTLA!

OV is proud and very excited to present Gothic Tropic for their single/video release show at The Mine in Downtown LA tonight!

OV loves Gothic Tropic! We've been eagerly anticipating this Echo Park band to release something since their Awesome Problems EP in 2011, so words cannot explain how excited we are for this new single. Cecilia Della Peruti is the brains behind this operation and she is a hands-down genius who masters the art of psych-pop, lo-fi, and punk guitar and vocals. This is an impressive feat, seeing as she is a songwriter and producer as well! Gothic Tropic's entrancing music is energetic, captivating, and beautifully eerie. Needless to say, we are counting down the minutes to tonight's show.

Also performing that night will be Twin Steps, So Many Wizards, DJ Nina Tarr, and Hott MT. It's gonna be a great night, we hope to see you there! In the meantime, check out this live version of Underwater Games; a track off their upcoming Split 7' with Hott MT:

TONIGHT: OV + Dirty Laundry Present Mike Watt and the Missingmen

Thought you'd have a quiet Friday tonight? Maybe go to bed early, get some rest? Well you're wrong because OV + Dirty Laundry are presenting another kickass show at Casey's Irish Pub in DTLA tonight! This week's edition of Filthy Fridays is headlined by the legendary Mike Watt & his Missingmen!

Co-founder and bassist of punk godfathers Minutemen and fIREHOSE, Mike Watt's music has been a huge influence on thousands of bands and listeners. But just like those bands, Mike has never been satisfied sitting still and so he's been touring relentlessly with his new group The Missingmen, bringing his punk music vision to smaller bars and clubs across the U.S. His most recent album, Hyphenated Man, is evidence of this constant movement, flying between trad-punk and more experimental punk sounds with ease. We've always been huge fans of his work and we jumped at the opportunity to co-present his music at such an intimate venue.

What's even better is OV faves Gothic Tropic and Avi Buffalo will be opening! Sounds like you're gonna need to get out of bed and get to Casey's right at 9PM! Cant get your lazy bum up? Give a listen to Minutemen classic "This Ain't No Picnic" below and we'll see you tonight!

TONIGHT: OV + Dirty Laundry Present The Abigails @ Casey's Irish Pub!

Ready for some black heart outlaw country music tonight? Sure hope so, because OV and Dirty Laundry are teaming up to bring you The Abigails at Casey's Irish Pub in DTLA!

Self described as "Debauched zen from the country-fried spiral pits of satanical wonderlust," The Abigails are led by the low, slow drawl of lead singer Warren Thomas, whose voice calls to mind a darker, more syrupy version of Man Man's Honus Wagner. Warren, a former member of both the Growlers and Grand Elegance, brought the hazy, stonier moments of both bands together with his own unique brand of country in The Abigails debut album, Songs of Love & Despair. Now touring in support of their new album, Tundra, out on Burger Records, The Abigails will be bringing their unique black-hearted sound to Casey's tonight at 9PM, and we at Origami are stoked to be sponsoring such a good night of music.
