IN-STORE TONIGHT: Indians at 7:00pm

Echo Park be warned, you're going to regret missing tonight when Indians perform in our loft at 7pm...so don't!

Indians are from Copenhagen.

Indians' universe is magical, full of fables and (painful) love.

Indians' music is dreamy, with roots in the psychedelic folk, and fingers deep in today's poetic and romantic topsoil.

Indians released two songs "Magic Kids" and "New" on 7 "vinyl on their own label TWIMM Rec in April.

Indians look forward to meeting you.

That's all we know...until later tonight. In the mean time, dig this video for Indians' song "Magic Kids" and get dreamy with us tonight at 7 pm!

TONIGHT: In-store w/ Mariee Sioux 7 pm

Tonight OV has something to ease that troubled soul of yours - celestial folk artist Mariee Sioux is performing in-store at 7 pm!

Mariee Sioux's new album, Gift for the End, is Brooklyn's Whale Watch Records debut release. The album is a hand-crafted display of compassionately folky music that is the top of its class. The thoughtful emotion put into each song perfectly explain why Marie said "this was more of a spiritual rehearsal and a journey through self knowledge, love, and questioning than just a record to me."

Listen to "Ghost in my Heart" below and let your soul, body, & mind join us tonight at 7 pm!

TONIGHT: In-store w/ Highlands @ 8 pm

You are cordially invited to a free in-store performance from Highlands at Origami Vinyl on Friday, July 27 at 8 pm. These dudes are more than floating heads on a record store's blog - they're awesome!

Influenced by "all things loud" Highlands has one foot in psychedelic rock and other in shoegaze. Their newly-released album, Singularity, is only a 33 minute ride of distorted reverberations but packs the punch of a full hour baby.

After you listen to "Railroad" you'll have a burnin' in yer heart to join us tonight at 8 pm!

TONIGHT: In-store w/ The Heavy Guilt 7 pm

Tonight's in-store band, The Heavy Guilt reminds the world that the internet isn't always a creepy place to meet people. Percussionist Alfred Howard said he and keyboardist Josh Rice sought out a vocalist through an old band's mailing list and a drummer through Craigslist.

The Heavy Guilt has successfully made two albums together, including the 2011 independent release, In The Blood. While their roots are heaviest in rock, the playful sounds of other genres reflect each member's diverse talents and styles.

Get in the loop with The Heavy Guilt's video for "The Cost" and let's see your smile tonight at 7 pm!

TONIGHT: Listening Party for The Antlers "Undersea" 8 pm

Tonight we're suckerpunchin' ya with an in-store w/ Foxygen at 7 pm then hitting ya with a listening party at 8 pm! It's the best beating you'll ever get because you can hear The Antlers' new album, Undersea (out on ANTI) all the way through. AND there will be free pizza, drinks, and a test press to raffle off courtesy of Epitaph!

Counteract Magazine had to say this about Undersea: "The EP is without doubt a step into murky waters, with eight minute long tracks and more electronic mixing than ever before. But after many listens, this resembles the QE2 rather than the Titanic… The Great Barrier Reef rather than Calais… In fact; there isn’t much more The Antlers could’ve done to make this better." Ohhh yeah!

Listen to "Drift Dive" below and float on by for Foxygen at 7 pm then hear Undersea at 8.

TONIGHT: In-store w/ Foxygen 7 pm!!

Aww yeah you ready to get wild with Foxygen? No? That's cool baby, cuz you have a few hours to snap outta it before you shimmy on over to OV to see Foxygen bring down the house in-store tonight at 7 pm!

While most of us did nothing productive in high school, Jonathan Rado and Sam France recorded songs in a bedroom as Foxygen. They've produced more than eight albums in the past few years, catching the attention of Jagjaguwar, who is releasing the new album, Take The Kids Off Broadway on July 24.

Foxygen is a brilliant psych haze that drives you through a 60s trip that's fresh, never frozen. They'll be touring the West coast with La Sera and Moonface, but you can see them for free at OV.

Get psyched with "Make It Known" and don't deny yourself the pleasure of seeing Foxygen tonight at 7 pm!

We'll see your ears at 3 pm PDT. Here is a quick fix of Matt Braunger doin' what he does:

Saturday, July 21, 2012

TONIGHT: In-store w/ Conveyor @ 7 pm!

If the once-inescapable chef Emeril were to whip up a band it might be Conveyor. Hailing from Brooklyn, Conveyor melts intricate layers of acoustic guitars, synths, and harmonious vocals together into BAM - a summery confection of sonic pleasure. And they're playing in-store tonight at 7 pm!

Their new self-titled album on July 17 on Paper Garden Records and it's ready for your ears. "These guys are obsessed with the tiniest details and it might take a few listens to catch all the subtle touches Conveyor throws your way. The band hasn't made any mistakes so far and every track released has hinted at a top notch debut LP ..." (We Listen For You).

Give em a try, listen to "Woolgatherer" and stop by tonight at 7 pm to see them play in-store for free!

CORRECTION TONIGHT: Matt Baunger: Shovel Fighter Album Release Party 6 pm!

Tonight OV is expanding your definition of "record store" with the release party for Matt Braunger's new comedy album, Shovel Fighter, recorded live at The Alberta Rose Theatre in Portland, OR.

Matt Braunger's 2009 album, Soak Up the Night, was one of the best of the year, so we've got high hopes for Shovel Fighter. Come celebrate with us tonight @ 6 pm!

Also, hang with Matt tonight before he comes on OV's Coup D'etat on Moheak Radio this Sunday @ 3 pm PDT.

We can't guarantee shovel fighting but we can guarantee a good time!

Thursday, July 19, 2012

TONIGHT: In-store w/ Silver Snakes 7 pm!!

Move over Blue Barracudas and Green Monkeys, the Silver Snakes are in-store tonight at 7 and they're playing to win! Not a Legends of the Hidden Temple fan? While you may not understand all the puns, you can still appreciate how hard this band rocks!

To celebrate the vinyl release of their album, Pictures of a Floating World (Animal Style Records/Siren Records), you'll be able to hear Silver Snakes play as well as pick up the record!

In the band’s own words about Pictures of a Floating World: “we were going for … a 90s influenced, raw rock record” but also with “a freshness and relevance that the world’s ears have been craving.” The tight production and oscillation between alternative rock elements throughout the album make it a must-hear.

Get a life, listen to "Lungs And Lanterns" below, and accept the challenge of stopping by tonight at 7!

TODAY: In-Store w/ The Young at 5 pm!!

Any band that stops to play a show in a boxing gym in Bakersfield on tour is alright with me. While OV's loft may be free of punching bags and equipment, it'll get just as sweaty today as The Young play in-store at 5pm!

Their new album, Dub Egg, released May 8 on Matador Records and has been called "a crispy, Crazy Horse-like delight that glimmers and growls." The Young wrote the record in a desolate Texas cabin, stumbling upon tracks that lure ya in one rich lo-fi-coated classic rock influence at a time. Come on, you can't resist seeing this Austin quartet for free at OV before their show tonight at the Echo.

Get a long little doggy and watch the video for "Livin' Free" before we see ya tonight at 5!

TONIGHT: In-store w/ Mike Viola at 7 pm!!

Mike Viola poses with peacocks because he is a peacock. Yeah, I said it. Like a peacock, Viola stands out in everything he does musically - film, production, solo projects, you pickin up what I'm puttin down?

OV is super stoked to have Mike Viola play in our loft! His newest solo album, Electro De Perfecto is his first new release in 4 years and features legendary sidemen Victor Indrizzo and Sean Hurley creating "near-perfect nuggets of smart pop" with brilliant So Cal harmonies reminiscent of greats like the Beatles and Beach Boys.

Curious to know why Mike Viola can't be ignored? Listen to "Get You Back" and get yourself back to OV tonight at 7 pm!

TONIGHT: Alberta Cross - Songs Of Patience Premiere Party! 8 PM!

If you aren't the patient type, come to OV on Monday night at 8 pm as we premiere Alberta Cross' new album, Songs of Patience, before it's release on July 17 on ATO Records.

Your impatience will be rewarded with giveaways*, free pizza, and dranks as you eager beavers listen to Songs of Patience all the way through!

Alberta Cross' Petter Ericson Stakee speaks highly of this record when he says, “everything we have been through is present ... and it's my proudest work yet.” With a statement like that you've gotta stop by!

Listen to "Lay Down" below to prepare yourself for TONIGHT at 8 pm.

*These giveaways are AWESOME. Among other things, we've got autographed screen prints inspired by the album artwork, and tickets to their 7/24 show at the Troubadour!!!
