INSTORE TONIGHT: SEAPONY DOES IT AGAIN!! 7:00PM

If you too were caught up last night with memorializing a french icon or experiencing a rebirth of soul...well, you might have missed one of the coolest shows to happen this summer...SEAPONY at The Echoplex. But don't worry!! Tonight is another night full of chances!!

The music of Seapony is refreshing in its simplicity. Most songs use no more than three chords, with an average running time around two-and-a-half minutes. THAT'S POP MY FRIENDS! In lieu of a human drummer, the Seattle trio entrusts time-keeping to a vintage gizmo the size of a desktop calculator. Keeping it simple and letting the music make an impact.

Get gazey with Seapony & OV tonight at 7:00pm.

In Store tonight: Barrio Tiger, Vaz, and Pygmy Shrews!

As part of Echo Park Rising, we're hosting Barrio Tiger, VAZ and Pygmy Shrews in the loft tonight!

Don't let the name fool you. Pygmy Shrews are not a bunch of adorable rodents. They are loud. Really loud. And really good.

Brooklyn based Vaz's new album, Chartreuse Bull, is, as described by lead singer Paul, "inspired by [his] Norwegian DNA." Wherever they came from, we just think the melodic, loud, gritty songs are awesome!

LA's own Barrio Tiger ends out the night with some "ferocious," pure garage punk rock. The loft is gettin' sweaty tonight!!

Show starts at 6 pm with Pygmy Shrews, Vaz at 7 and Barrio Tiger at 8. Come get down with us on this hot summer night!

Friday, August 26, 2011

INSTORE TONIGHT: WHITMAN @ 7pm

Whitman, along with a cellist and drummer, will be settling down into a corner of the shop tonight for the release of his new album "Dog Rose Gall" out nowon Folktale Records. This is Whitman better than we've heard yet. The new album finds him building on the folk & noise of previous releases but finding new corners to stretch into. We are quite looking forward to tonight.

Check out the track "Give Up" to whet your appetite.

Echo Park Rising!

"Why not make it a block party and have some fun."

And with those simple words a weekend of fun has begun!!!

The Wilderness Of Manitoba @ 7pm Tonight

Tonight finds The Wilderness Of Manitoba climbing the spiral stairs to our loft and unleashing their lush & majestic folk songs upon the lucky people who will be standing below. We spend a lot of time trying to describe bands to you hoping it will peak your interest...but for this one I'm just gonna let the music speak for itself.

The Wilderness Of Manitoba plays at 7:00pm...and it will be wonderful!

SABERTOOTH CAVITY @ 7PM, THIS CITY DEFECTS @ 8PM

Sabertooth Cavity are five guys who migrated from the Carlsbad Caverns to Albuquerque but never played together before. Overdriven cousin-guitars, a dented-sax, and a rhythm section so tight that it stretches.
The result is Jam, as in, jammed all up into one big spazzout...phenomenal live...still are the loudest boy-band in the desert.

"Jazz derangements, electronic debris and heaving melts of guitar are just part of it. What Sabertooth Cavity offers up with its first album, En Lak Ech, is a little more meta. Or a little more Dada. However you want to take it." - Samara Alpern

THE CANADIANS ARE COMING!!! 8pm brings This City Defects all the way from Calgary to tear your face off with their blazing guitar-riffs (complete with fretboad antics) high-octane drumming blasts, and meticulous arrangements surging with the momentum of a gale-force wind pounding against a storm window. We just hope it doesn't level the block!

They even sent over some notes for us...

Moonbeams + Neat Beats/Phen Swan In-Store Performance TONIGHT @ 6pm!

Another double-header for y'all!

Moonbeams @ 7pm
A bedroom project consisting of hypnotic, echoing guitar tracks that swirl and blend together over hushed vocals and basic chord progressions. Reminds us a lot of Ride and Slowdive.

Neat Beats/Phen Swan @ 6pm
Beautifully orchestrated beats sprinkled with pianos, reverb, guitars. Definitely for fans of Baths and DJ Shadow.

TONIGHT IN THE LOFT: Robert Ellis at 5pm, Roommate at 7pm...ALL OF IT BITCHIN'

We've got quite a great double header in the loft tonight. It's bit all over the place stylistically, but that's how we like to do it here, and rest assured...it's all great!

First off at 5:00 pm is the equal parts Jackson Browne & Glen Campbell country of ROBERT ELLIS, one of the finest troubadours working today. He'll be performing solo versions of songs off his newest LP Photographs (out now on New West Records. Don't miss the chance to catch him in such an intimate setting.

Robert Ellis - What's In It For Me by NewWestRecords.

Following at 7:00 pm we have ROOMMATE from Chicago. Making organic, quirky lo-fi pop songs for about a decade Kent Lambert, the man behind the magic, has finally solidified into a full blown band and on the latest record the concept of guitar rock is turned on its head with electronic landmines and further distorted with the likes of vibraphone, banjo, autoharp and violin. See the unconventional made functional tonight at 7pm in our loft.
