OV WEEKLY: A Respite From Tummy-Aches

Still digesting all that Halloween candy? We sure are. Consider this edition of the Weekly a extra-strong dosage of Tums for that aching stomach!

Monday, November 3rd
Amason + Paul Bergmann @ The Echo!

Enjoyed Amason in the shop? Then join us at The Echo on TONIGHT @ 8:30 PM and see Amason again with Paul Bergmann and Wartime Recitals!

The sweet Swedes of Amason have been making music together since late 2012, and ever since the release of their self-entitled EP in August of 2013 people have been begging for an album. We will all have to wait a little longer for their debut album Sky City, which is set to release worldwide in early 2015. But, to tide us over in the meantime, the band has just released the single "Duvan" on Fairfax Recordings and INGRID, and man, do we want more. Amanda, the female vocalist, has a soothing retro vibe, mixed with just the right amount of synth while being supported by catchy beats and soothing vibes that will calm you right down after a long day. The sound is sultry, and inviting. Amason has created a wonderful and enticing concoction, especially with the combination of English and Swedish lyrics, that is very unique to the scandinavian five-piece. All of the members have their own very impressive musical talents and projects (think Miike Snow), but when they get together, Amason is a force to be reckoned with.

Label-mate and Echo Park local Paul Bergmann will also be appearing at The Echo on the third. Paul Bergmann's voice, often compared to Cash or Dylan, comes together beautifully with an eery lone guitar to create a forlorn indie-folk and dark country sound that we at OV are really enjoying right now.  Recently signed to Fairfax Recordings, Bergmann's music has an air of timelessness about it, reminiscent of old western movies and stories of lost dreams told around a campfire at night. His self-titled debut EP has been making waves, so you won't want to miss this one.

This duo preforming together sounds almost too good to be true. BUT WAIT! It gets even better! The show is free! So cancel all your plans and head down to The Echo. It's a show you won't forget!

OV + Wax On Wax @ Madame Tussauds!

If you're in Hollyweird this Wednesday, then you should come on down to Madame Tussauds to catch your fave OVers spinning wax alongside L.A greats! As part of Red Bull Sound Select's 30 Days In LA, Madame Tussauds is throwing a dance party IN the museum and you're invited! It's headlined by one of our favorite DJs, Mayer Hawthorne, and we can't wait to spin with him and all the awesome DJs at this event. Everymen @ Cafe Nela!

Dude. You gotta join us at Cafe Nela tonight. One of our fave bands, The Everymen, is playing and we need you there for moral support! With heartfelt lyrics and that special New Jersey-rock-band-something, The Everymen released one of our favorite albums of the year Givin' Up On Free Jazz, and now they've finally made it to L.A to play it! With plenty of skronk and driving guitars, Givin' Up On Free Jazz is as well-meaning as it is playfully irreverent, and by golly, we love them for it! Designed for toe-tapping with shitty beer, we can't wait to get our boogie on with The Everymen tonight at Cafe Nela! See you there!

A Double-Decker In-Store: Twilight Sad @ 3PM + Orenda Fink @ 7PM!

Today at OV, get your in-store on all day when Twilight Sad & Orenda Fink take over the loft!

Hailing from Scottland, Twilight Sad definitely channels their famed Scottish weather into their music. It's broody, smooth, and has some unexpected synth undertones that make it perfect to listen to in the overcast fall weather or in a dimly lit pub. Nobody Wants to Be Here and Nobody Wants to Leave, released on Fatcat Records, is Twilight Sad's fourth album, and it packs a punch. One of the best parts about this album is that every song tells a story that you can relate to in some way and its warm, homey vibe make it a must listen.

The second half of today's in-stores, Orenda Fink, has never shied away from exploring the human condition and spirituality in her music. Her new album Blue Dream, released on Saddle Creek Records, is full of dreamy siren songs whose emotion pulse out of every groove. Fink has a mellow, calming vibe that perfectly frames her thought provoking lyrics. It's music that's really hard not to nod along with. With Blue Dream, Orenda Fink gives an intimate look into her soul, and you should check it out pronto. Come check her out with Twilight Sad today at Origami!

Everyone Is Dirty In-Store @ 7PM!

It's a full weekend of in-stores at OV, and to kick off the good stuff, we're having Everyone Is Dirty take over the loft!

Self described as "bedroom tapes on bath salts," Everyone Is Dirty mixes the homegrown with the musically unhinged, muddying guitars and howls into alt-rock bliss. Headlined by the crazy-unique violin playing of lead singer, Sivan Gur-Arieh, Everyone Is Dirty pushes their garage lineage into heady art-rock territory remarkably well, retaining immediacy even as they add layers of swirling instrumentals. A balancing act as intriguing as it is catchy, Everyone Is Dirty is looking to move up in the world after a quick rise through the SF music scene. Shifting their conquering gaze southwards, we're more than happy to welcome the invasion and hope you join the welcoming party tonight at 7 when the group runs through the shop!

Sunday, November 9th
Cave Clove In-Store @ 4PM!

And closing out the week at OV, Cave Clove roll through OV today at 4PM! Sensuous and hazy, Cave Clove's desert-fried Americana is the perfect soundtrack to a quiet Sunday afternoon at OV. A four piece psych-folk ensemble, Cave Clove also plays with traditional Americana, soul, and R&B sensibilities. In combination with their obvious rock 'n' roll chops, Cave Clove's unique mix of genres creates a stellar sound that is all their own. Headlined by their soulful harmonies and liquid guitar solos, Cave Clove represents another chapter in the ever-evolving book of Americana. Touring in support of their newest 7" Kyrie, we're stoked what to see what Cave Clove brings to the loft and hope you can join us for some afternoon music right here at OV!

Now that we've planned your week, you better share some of the candy haul with us. We're always hungry.
