We have a freakin' awesome last minute addition to our already jam-packed June for y'all. Tonight, the Netherlands' very own indie rock band, The Black Atlantic, is performing in our loft at 7pm!The Black Atlantic started as a side project by Geert van der Velde that gradually became more serious after his first recoded song - a Valentine's gift to his then girlfriend, now wife - received some label interest when posted on MySpace in February 2006. He recorded more songs with the help of various friends, before eventually making this side project into a full-fledged band. They released their debut album Reverence for Fallen Trees digitally for free in 2009 and subsequently their follow-up EP Darkling, I Listen in 2012, before touring worldwide.
Darkling, I Listen is an immersive listening experience, influenced by psychedelic rock and soul sensibilities with cues from current indie paradigms, such as Grizzly Bears or Bon Iver. Although they draw from so many genres, the music is never clouded or unoriginal.
