Frank Fairfield may have an old folk sound, but he's just 24, and he hails from California's central valley — not Appalachia.
With his Brylcreem-parted hair and high-waisted pants, he brings an old-time aesthetic to his old-time music. On his self-titled first album, released last year, he plays the standards of the American folk repertoire — songs that have been played by many artists over generations. (Jeff Weiss)
Let's get more familiar, shall we?
Man, he plays a mean fiddle...and can sing a delightful tune as well. We are honored to have him back in our loft this evening to celebrate his new LP, Out on the Open West (Tompkins Square).
Frank has played the store a couple times, back in 2009 in celebration of OV's first Record Store Day and a couple times as a rogue street performer in front of our shop on the sidewalk. Since those times, Frank has seen a rewarding trajectory, playing with Fleet Foxes and getting rave reviews from peeps like Brooklyn Vegan and Pitchfork, and most recently embarking on a European tour. This will be an incredible event and we hope you can check this out.
