MORE TONIGHT: Dan Deacon "America" Listening Party 8 pm!

Since the dawn of time, Origami Vinyl has thrown the best Listening Parties and givin' the people what they want: yummy pizza, cool bevs, and giveaways just for hanging out listen to a great new album in its totality. The ancient tradition continues tonight at 8 pm as we celebrate the release of Dan Deacon's new album, America, out August 28th on Domino Records

The record maintains Deacon's recognizable cyclone of joyful pop we all know and love while allowing his progress as a musician to shine along with the thoughtful concept behind the album. He explains, "the inspiration for the music was my love of cross-country travel, seeing the landscapes of the United States, going from east to west and back again over the course of seasons. The lyrics are inspired by my frustration, fear and anger towards the country and world I live in and am a part of."

We're also giving away these rad 2' x 3' flags with purchase of the album! Join the party and take pictures of your flag for this awesome contest!

Monday is also the perfect day for you come to Origami because we have two bands, Weed & Babysitter playing in-store at 7pm before the listening party! Here is the amazing video for "True Thrush" off of America:

6 PM TONIGHT: Double Dose In-store w/ Weed + Babysitter!

Two of the most difficult bands to search on the internet, Weed & Babysitter, are playing in-store tonight 6 pm! They are reppin' British Columbia so show em some tour love as you see the two bands play for free.

Weed is a heavy, grungy, sludgy pop band from Vancouver BC. They have released two 7"s on indie label Cruising USA. The latest, Gun Control EP, came out mid May of this year and includes four uniquely cool, disoriented and grimey rock songs. Check out "Tie To Everything You Own" below.

Babysitter keeps the Canadian flowin' with their spazzy and fun punk rock sound that pins the listener and playing band in a competition of who can have the most fun. This band probably get's no sleep. Since forming in the fall of 2010, Babysitter has released twelve tapes and two 7"s, all while maintaining a heavy touring schedule and working on a debut LP.  They experiment with every sound under the umbrella of punk rock, and they stay rad while doin' it. Listen to "Holiday" off their split 7" with Korean Gut on Student Loan Records right here.

Hey, why not stick around for the Dan Deacon listening party at 8? Monday night is an OV hat trick. It all starts at 6. Seeee yaaa!

TODAY: In-store w/ Brass Bed 5pm!

As spicy as gumbo and crazy as Mardi Gras, Brass Bed is bringing the heat with an in-store today, on this beautiful Sunday, at 5:00pm.

Brass Bed has psychedelic sounds that are really subtle, like unexpectedly diet psych that's mixed with electrified folk and is so delicious you enjoy it more than the classic. Their full-length album, The Secret Will Keep You, is set to release 2013, but the Bullet For You 7" Crossbill Records released is a fantastic three-song distraction. Title track, "Bullet for You" is "a smoke-wreathed piece of pleading, romantic rock that explodes into a gnashing guitar solo redolent of post-Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Wilco" (SPIN).

These Louisianna natives are touring the west coast, so you prolly don't want to miss a free in-store at OV, now do ya? We didn't think so.

Echo Park Rising Schedule @ Casa de OV!

In less than 24 hours we'll be partying with the whole community for Echo Park Rising!! Here is what OV has going on for the day:

1pm – 1:30pm TS & THE PAST HAUNTS
Enjoyable, playful and heavy pop punk that makes you feel safe just before they drop a massive sound on your pinky toe.

1:45pm – 2:15pm KISSING COUSINS
Awesome girl band that successfully blends the dichotomy between feminine harmonies and forceful rock.

2:30pm – 3pm LA FONT
Polished garage rock that's too sophisticated and intricate for actual teenagers but perfect for the teenager in all of us.

3:15pm-3:45pm LINE & CIRCLE
Alternative rock backing an unstable low voice that reminds you of the 80s ... but way better.

4pm – 4:30pm SPIRIT VINE
Weepy rock that entices you to sway as ya get lost in the sonic waves and swirling vocals.

4:45pm- 5:15pm COSMONAUTS
Catchy and fuzzy psych rock that's straight outta a rebellious teenage alien's garage.

5:30 HOLLOYS
Take pulsing jungle beats with a semi-psychedelic groove and throw glitter on it all.

Swing by to see these bands and give us a high five! And check out the full schedule HERE.

TONIGHT: In-store Record Release w/ Emerson Star 7 pm!

Emerson Star (not to be mistaken with that weird home-schooled kid you knew growing up) is a rad band made up of three childhood friends from Burbank. OV is stoked to have these guys play in-store tonight at 7 pm and celebrate the release of their debut 7" by Bellwhether Record Company!

You'd be a fool to miss a band that has this description: "If the 1990s had an illegitimate love child with the 1960s, Emerson Star would probably be friends with that baby." Wouldn't we all like to be friends with that baby?!

Swing by at 7 pm for some great live tunes, cool new friends, and endless high-fives. Until then, see how many times you can listen to Emerson Star's "Pot Shots".

TONIGHT: Two Gallants "The Bloom and the Blight" Listening Party 6:30 pm!!

Do you ever feel like you're the last person to know about good things?  That ends now! We're having a Two Gallants listening party Wednesday night at 6:30 pm and you can count on OV to provide ya with the best giveaways, pizza, cold beverages, and atmosphere to hear the new record, The Bloom and the Blight, in its entirety wayyy before its release date of 9/4 on ATO Records!

We're also giving away a pair of tickets to their sold out show at El Cid TONIGHT!

If all that isn't enough for you, the guys will be at OV to sign posters for anyone who pre-orders the record!!! And why wouldn't you when "The Bloom and the Blight moves away from Two Gallants’ more folk and blues-based past, representing the duo’s ferocious live show and their past steeped in punk and grunge." OH BABY that's a sweet deal.

Do we even need to mention that you'll be hearing all the new material on the album before Two Gallants play FYF Fest on September 1?? Didn't think so.

Get excited with this free download of "Broken Eyes" above and the album trailer below while ya ink your calendars for the Two Gallants listening party tonight at 6:30 pm!

TONIGHT: In-store w/ Western Scene

It was a scorching afternoon. I visited  Western Scene's webpage and clicked on the bio tab. "Two hombres met at a cactus and cut it down for some tacos... " Sounds good to me! Equally as refreshing as cactus tacos, tonight Western Scene is performing for all in our loft at 7 pm!

Western Scene formed in 2011 by good friends Tom Pritchard and Jason Burkhart (Kenan Bell), who both played in bands prior to this fusion. Since then they've been working in Echo Park with Hugo Nicolson (Radiohead, Primal Scream) to record their debut album, which is full of perfect day-to-night jams. The beat is dancy and upbeat but the vocals and harmonies are light and kind of airy. Catchy indie-pop suitable for any hour!

Check out the event through Facebook so you can share it with your mom or that one friend who keeps posting pictures of his/her baby.

Get "Listening" below and catch ya when the little hand is on 7!

TONIGHT: Opening Reception for Steven Harrington's Insideout 8-11 pm!

YO PEEPS, TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT. Origami Vinyl is super excited that our friend, Steven Harrington, is having a solo art show complete with new paintings, prints, drawings, and sculptures!

Steven Harrington is an extraordinary Los Angeles-based artist "best known for his bright, iconic style that encourages a two-way conversation between the artist and the viewer." Get chatty with us at the opening reception tonight from 8-11 PM!

Insideout runs August 18 - September 1 at
Known Gallery
441 North Fairfax Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90036

Just when you thought this post couldn't get any better, in case you didn't know, Steven Harrington designed the current Origami Vinyl t-shirt! You can snag one in-store or at our online store here for $15. That's money well spent for some cool wearable art if ya ask me.

Come out to the opening reception tonight for a great time as we support OV's dear homie on his big accomplishment!

TONIGHT: Back to Back In-store w/ Ugly Winner (6pm) & Spaceships (7pm) !!

You can always count on Origami Vinyl in-stores to be free and awesome, but tonight we're giving you all you could ever want with back-to-back in-stores with Ugly Winner at 6pm then Spaceships at 7 pm!!

San Jose-based Ugly Winner released their second full-length, Inside Your Wave, on July 21. You'd never guess it was recorded at home because it's punk that sounds polished clean without compromising the band's rough energy. Experiencing these dudes live is a must!

Theee party doesn't stop there - at 7 pm Spaceships plays in the loft as we celebrate the release of their 7"! While Jessie Waite and Kevin LaRose may "write songs about life, mountains, and also other things like death and working," they aren't your run-of-the-mill songs. Spaceships brings a distorted lo-fi sweetness to these common things with a bedroom-garage style with deeper emotions cleverly weaved in.

Don't be fashionably late for your double date with Ugly Winner and Spaceships tonight, the fun starts at 6 pm! And in true fairy tale fashion, this blog post is complete with a happy ending - "Fret One (Grow Old)" by Ugly Winner AND "inTheSun" by Spaceships.
